I Was in Quebec City Over the Weekend

Last Thursday I drove up to Quebec City with my son Jason, his wife Jen, and my friend Irene. We drove back home Sunday. The weather was excessively humid for Quebec which made Friday quite ugly but Saturday was much more breezy. Irene has never been to Canada and she is of French Canadian heritage so we wanted to share some of the things we love so much about the city. The food, the history, the location, and the culture. We are at a lovely restaurant Thursday night. I had turnip and maple soup and a salad with lobster for dinner. It was sooo good. On Friday we took Irene to the Jeanne d'Arc Garden then the Plains of Abraham to visit the museum and take a tour bus around the plains. Then we went for pizza and salad on the Rue Cartier. We visited the excavation under the Terrace Dufferin and then my knees said no more. Jason and Jen took Irene on a tour of the lower city. Saturday Jason and Jen took Irene to see the Citadel while I did some writing and then we headed off to Montmorency Falls where we had lunch and walked to the falls. Then it was off to the Isle de Orleans and a stop at a vineyard and our favorite ice cream shop. Irene went off with Jason and Jen on a Ghost Tour which I have taken twice while I did some writing. We had a lovely time and other than waiting an hour to get back into the US at the border, it all went very well. This was big for me, to actually be away from home, it was a big step. The weekend before I was at my brothers in Vermont which was another big step in my returning to normal. The photo is the Jeanne d'Arc statue.

I am glad you could stop and visit Québec City, shame that you found a very humid day. We are also having days more humid than average.

Sounds like just the kind of outing you needed. How many hours did it take to drive from the U.S to Canada ?

When we lived in Michigan we would go into Canada. I was too young to remember.

It sounds like your had a lovely time. When I was there in high school I don't remember doing any sightseeing but maybe we did. Montreal made a bigger impact on me.

Quebec City is much more historic. Montreal is a huge city. I love Quebec but only tolerate Montreal. lol It's like Boston and New York, I love Boston much more.

@MarshaMusselman I didn't eat any crepes this trip but we often eat crepes in Quebec, Of course, for me they are the usual, my mom never made any other kind of pancake.

@BelleStarr when we were in Montreal I think we took a bus tour but mostly we traveled on foot around the hotel where we stayed.  We visited a crepe restaurant; my first introduction to crepes. It was divided up into rooms and had them decorated differently. I only remember two of the rooms; one had fishing nets and possibly part of a boat. The other had captains chairs and was supposed to be regal.  I imagine each room could be rented but I never thought about it at the time. We ate in a main dining area.

After retirement, I traveled when the opportunity presented itself. Good that you do the same too and enjoy the moments.

It sounds like a really wonderful time-good for you. Last weekend was terribly hot and muggy across our region also, but that mass has moved away and the weather is more tolerable. I know that when you have your sad moments you can remember how happy you felt on this getaway.

I have had a bit of Canadian experience a few years ago - just two days but covered quite a bit including the Niagara Falls by night - those lights were amazing.
