Inevitably at our beaches, you will be see sea gulls. Are they frequent visitors of your beaches too?
It's not unusual these days to see them in city. Groups of sea gulls will hang out in trash bins near restaurants or in parking lots where people have dropped their food. For maybe a second, a sea gull squawk will make me think I'm near the beach .
On last weekend's trip, we saw this sea gull admiring the ocean view from the sand area above us. I had to laugh. With the palm trees in the background, it reminded me of a conversation with @crossbones27 on one of his posts about sea gulls . . . ah, the sea gulls of Cali .
Do you view sea gulls as lovely seaside birds or ever hungry scavengers?

I've never seen a seagull in person... There aren't any "beaches" in the middle of the US.

@crossbones27 I've never been to Chicago. Have no idea what's there. Chicago's in the middle of the US?

@DaddyEvil Kind o,f guess I have always been told that is midwest. Its not far from you Probably 4 to 5 hour drive maybe 6 depending where you at and how you drive. Hell it takes me three hours to 4 to get out of my state depending on traffic.
I visited about close to 10 years ago downtown area too but I did even think about checking it out. I would be like California beaches better plus it was getting cold but I bet its rather pretty.

Occasionally I see some gulls (not the sea gull) flying above the Yangtse River. The fantastic scenery that visitors flock to see in Kunming, SW China's Yunnan is the black-headed gulls that blot out the sky and cover up the ground.

@changjiangzhibin89 Wow, people seem to respect those black headed gulls. What travelers they are - imagine the kind of life they have going from Kunming all the way to Russia !

How interesting to see people feeding them while they are in flight (the photo in your link)! What a sight to see many of them flock together like that. Here, sea gulls are treated as if they are a nuisance as they are rather aggressive at times (they can steal your food if you do not guard it!).

I read that they were making a transformation wit Manila Bay . . . what was going on and is it all completed now? I would think sea gulls would be a good sign . . . I would think that means a food source is there for them and they must be spreading the word to their species .

I live far off from the beaches.
Many migratory birds like Siberian Crane or Storks do migrate to India during the winters and perhaps Sea Gulls as well!
But I haven't seen them in person so far.
A nice picture captured above.

OHhh, the cranes and storks must be beautiful to see when they come around !
We are not near the beaches, but the sea gulls are out here - they must have found out it is easier to find food in trash bins where the people are. That's not necessarily a good thing.
I hope you get to see these in person some time.
Thank you - it took a few tries to capture the right pose on this sea gull .

I really love seagulls, they are peaceful to me. I grew up on Long Island New York, and they were all over.

Ha, ha. Well, as food scavengers I would put them in the same class as squirrels. Sea gulls are pretty birds until you happen to drop a french fry while eating on the beach.

What would a group of seagulls be called? A group of crows is a murder, etc.

I love the old scavengers because when I hear them..I know the beach is near.
Though..funny now who would think you would have gulls here where I live? There is no beach, but I often hear them and see them flying around parking lots.
Oh I love the photo Much

I'm not sure which is more annoying on our Florida beaches....the sea gulls or the pelicans. They're both a nuisance to sunbathers. The pelicans are bigger, of course, but there seems to be so much more sea gulls than pelicans, so it's a toss up as to which is the most annoying.

We see pelicans flying in groups over the waves, but they don't seem to make a stop too often at our beaches. There might be solitary ones in places like piers In fact I have read recently that a lot of pelicans on our coast seem to be sick and dying for unknown reasons. Do they like taking food from people too?

@much2say Yeah, they love taking food from people, but the pelicans are not as bad as the sea gulls.
