I don't know. I am next-to-the-youngest sibling. I still did housework when mom needed help. I think parents just need help so ask the kids to help them.

@Andini No, that's not it. The eldest is always the first to be asked for help. When you get married, then the next eldest will be the one asked for help when it's needed. Your mom is showing you what life with a new husband will be like...

I'm an elder sibling ... sort of---my disability makes my maturity (or responsibility) 'not a sure thing.' (My little sister is one of my legal guardians.)
It's sort of like Spider-man (or maybe Peter Parker's uncle or -aunt) said, "With great power comes great responsibility." I would be PROUD if my parents asked me (instead of my little siblings) to do a chore---because the little ones cannot be TRUSTED to co the task as well as I can!

I don't think only the eldest kid is asked to do the household chores. The parents ask it any kid if he/she can do that. I was younger than the eldest one and I had to do several works asked by my parents but I never complained but used to do them happily and so should you.
