Say hello to Jim, the sulphur-crested cockatoo that it is our privilege to look after for the fortnight that we’re house-sitting. He is a dinky-di Aussie cockatoo and likes a small piece of toast spread with butter and Vegemite with his breakfast of a piece of gingernut biscuit and a couple of almonds.
He has been very good so far and hasn’t bitten us which was my worry. But normally he doesn’t bite and we’re careful to move slowly if we want to pet him so we don’t frighten him.
If he feels so inclined, he will climb on our shoulder and we’ll bring him up to his perch on the back verandah where he will spend a couple of hours. If we get out of sight for too long, he will start to squawk. We might take him for a walk to the wood-heap or somesuch but the weather hasn’t been the best for too much activity.
Late afternoon, he gets some sunflower seeds and some oats. He also likes thistles or wild oats from time to time.
Isn’t he just lovely?

Yes, he is beautiful.. I'm glad you and Vince still haven't sacrificed any fingers to him, too.
What does "dinky-di" mean?

@JudyEv Where would he go to get some in the wild should he ever decide to take off, though?

@BarBaraPrz He probably wouldn't survive in the wild now. He's been tame too long and he'd be at risk from the wild birds.

He does leave messages but our hostess's soiled jacket is on a kitchen chair and I'm thinking I'll wear that. He has one wing clipped so he can't fly away. I'd sit him on my shoulder and walk. If he wants to go on the ground for a while, he will apparently start climbing down your arm. When he'd had enough of fossicking around in the grass, he climbs up your arm and you can take him home. Sounds simple, doesn't it? But we haven't' tried anything beyond taking him from his big cage to his perch on the verandah.

That's an absolute gorgeous bird! What an honor that he accepts and trusts y'all. I think they are so funny but I have heard that such birds take a lot of time and attention. Perfect set up to get to baby, or birdy, sit for him.
