The parents of a six year old girl who was riding an inflatable unicorn at Washington Park Beach in Michigan City Indiana on Sunday admitted that they were distracted when their daughter went to take a swim in Lake Michigan by herself.
The young girl whose name was not mentioned came close to losing her life when the inflatable unicorn capsized which caused the young girl to struggle stay afloat.
Washington Park Beach lifeguard Aiden Tharp was one of the lifeguards who went into the lake to rescue the girl along with another lifeguard named Brendan Balling came to assist Aiden to bring her to shore.
After the girl was taken to the shore, officials of Laporte County emergency medical teams to check on her conditions when the parents of the girl refused to allow further medical treatment.,
Hopefully the parents of the six year old girl will be careful to keep a sharp lookout on their children when they are in the beach.
I am sure that the parents did thank the lifeguards for doing their job to save the life of their child.

It does sound odd that after their daughter was rescued by the lifeguards, they refused to have the medical responders take her to a local hospital.

@RubyHawk That could have been a factor in what happened.

@Deepizzaguy You’d think the parents would want the best for their child. It could have been that they didn’t have insurance.

@Deepizzaguy I hope so. And perhaps they were worried they’d have a medical bill.

@DianneN That is what I am thinking that the parents were scared of the medical bills that would come to them after their daughter would be released from the hospital.

@Deepizzaguy Yes they might have. But what about the others, they should also take a lesson from this incident.

I wonder why the parents refused any further medical treatment? I'm glad the girl was rescued.

Silly parents you do not let a six year old go alone on an inflatable or watch her but most likely one parent goes along,

Right place at the right time since school is returning and the lifeguards who are likely college or high school aged will be having less time on the job soon.
