Superstition Everywhere!

Are you superstitious? Did you maybe come from a superstitious family? I've never been superstitious and I didn't come from a superstitious family, but I've known many superstitious people, some very superstitious, others just a little superstitious. And I don't use the word "superstitious" in a make-fun-of way. I have learned in my 60 years that I don't know everything there is to know in life and that people have the right to their own belief system. I know about not walking across a black cat's path, not stepping under a ladder, not opening an umbrella inside, not breaking a mirror, and, of course, the notorious Friday the 13th! I'm interested in knowing about superstitions from your family, state, region, province, country, or even your continent. So are you superstitious? Is your family superstitious? Are there particular superstitions from where you live that you'd care to share about? Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

I'm not superstitious at all, but I remember an old wives tale that said if you drop a fork, a female is coming, if you drop a knife, a male is coming, and if you drop a spoon, a fool is coming.

@gtdoss When I drop a spoon, I think, "Well, aren't we all a fool at times."

Believe it or not, I just learned within the past couple of years that a lot of people don't want a black cat! I think this is weird, because black cats are just as nice as any other cats and they're really beautiful!

@gtdoss I have heard this superstition my entire life, about them being bad luck. They are not! My cat named Dude is like a teddy bear.

No, I am not at all superstitions and no one in my family has ever been superstitious. I love black cats and Friday 13th is a lucky day for me.

I love black cats, too! Also, I don't think I've ever had anything bad happen to me on Friday the 13th, and I just treat it like every other day.

I don't believe in all the superstition that are prevalent in India but do believe in some. The coming of green and yellow butterflies into the garden or house as a sign of success. A falling of flowers offered to God's and Goddesses in my prayer room as a blessing from them.

I'm not superstitious at all.I'm born on the 13th and I cannot say that it is a bad luck day for me.There is a superstition here saying that sweeping the house at night is considered off limits to families. It is strongly believed that this brings bad luck, as the good luck is being swept away, especially when sweeping the porch.Black cat also is considered bad luck also.

I don't THINK so, but I still get 'butterflies in my stomach' whenever I see a number with the digits "666" in it.

I am not but my wife is. She believes a black cat crossing your path is not good, spilling milk is bad, etc and there are many others that not only my wife but many other people believe and it's fine until it doesn't affect someone else.

I'm not but mom was. She'd knock on wood in some circumstances or if salt was spilled on the table she'd throw some over her shoulder, I can't remember which one and she wouldn't leave the house on the 13th no matter what day it fell on.

This sounds exactly like my mother-in-law, LOL! She's passed on now, but she did the knocking on wood, the salt throw, and she always pointed out to us (through a phone call) that it was Friday the 13th when it came around.

If I was going to adopt another cat, I would be just as happy with a black cat as I would any other color of cat.

I might have been superstitious if anyone else in my family was, but no one was, so I missed that boat.
