Let’s Talk About Uranus

There’s a planet in our solar system with a MAJOR problem: its name.
Its name is Uranus.
Today, they pronounce that YOUR-in-us.
Back when I was a kid, it was pronounced “your-A-nus.”
And, of course, it’s that old pronunciation that led to jokes too juvenile to be in the movie Porky’s, and that led to the change in the pronunciation.
Ah, but the juvenile jokes stuck around.
Enter Uranus Fudge Factory.
The original Uranus Fudge Factory is in Missouri, on I-44. Recently they’ve opened a second one in Indiana. To complicate the jokes, this one is located off….Interstate 69.
Let the sick jokes begin.
But, it was on the way home from Fort Wayne, and I hadn’t ever stopped at the one in Missouri before, so I thought I would.
I didn’t try the fudge, but it’s supposed to be really good (if you like fudge). They have lots of other fresh goodies and bagged candies, plus lots of souvenirs that capitalize on the marginally tasteless nature of the joke.
The place was busy when I stopped, so it has something going for it other than a questionably catchy name.

Sometimes the hardest thing is to find a good name for a business. It needs to be one that stands out and is memorable. Seems as if this one is both.

Yep. A lot of people stop because of the name, and to that end they probably sell as many souvenirs as boxes of fudge.

It's still pronounced Your-A-nus here. I don't see anything wrong with their name.

Me either.
Have you ever tried their fudge? I’m not a big fudge fan, so I wouldn’t get fudge from Uranus or anywhere else.

@FourWalls I like fudge but no, I've never stopped in there to get some. Up until a couple of years ago, I made fudge every Thanksgiving...

I think the educators try to say “YOUR-in-us” to avoid snickers from the students. Or not.

I don’t doubt it. They have a pretty active website, thanks to the tacky name.

Nothing wrong with choosing the name, but I wonder why they would, I mean what does a planet have to do with food?

It’s for the puns more than anything else, unless they want to say their fudge is out of this world.

I’m not responsible for any liquid you might spit out of your mouth if you drink while visiting the site. Just a fair warning.

Oh, I love bloopers. We used to have albums of bloopers, and I had a bunch of them memorized (“Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States, Hoobert Heaver!” [Herbert Hoover]).

It was about time they opened a branch office. It'll really help their bottom line ((That's the only family-friendly pun I can come up with)).
