If two different crops are grown in adjacent lands, the fertility of the lands remain intact. So in Bankura the brinjals and the papayas are grown in adjacent lands.The big leaves of the plants protect them from high heat and create a shade. Both the vegetables are very popular and eaten with rice or chapati in India.

I had to look up "brinjal." For those who are wondering, it's eggplant or aubergine, depending on whether you are American or British. How do you eat it? I like it cut long or round and stir-fried in olive oil with soy sauce and sesame seeds.

thanks Denise as far as Brinjal is concerned I eat it as a brinjal curry and eat it with rice
