Railway track memories

It's been a while since I travelled on a train and I rarely travel on a train. Yet, a train brings back lots of memories and seeing this empty, abandoned track was, in a way, romantic and charming. It's almost a reminder that, just as the track goes on and disappears in the distance, life has a destination, but we can sometimes not see it.

We have a lot of old railway lines around our area too. Some have been turned into walking or bike trails.

How easy is it to bike on? Won't it be very bumpy

@pitstop Sometimes they take the railway lines and sleepers away but the base surface remains, in which case the track is relatively smooth.

I remember riding the Panama Canal Railroad train from Balboa to Colon which was a great ride with my relatives.

@pitstop I think the train ride which was around 50 miles lasted about two hours.

@pitstop There’s nothing can compare with a long train ride into the distance. I did it a lot in India in 1970s.

@MALUSE I think my trip from Delhi to Kolkata took 36 hours also.

My longest has been 52 hours I think. Most have been very short (3 to 6 hours) or overnight.

Agree with your last sentence. It's very meaningful and symbolic.

I used to enjoy looking down the railroad tracks as well.
