An orphan calf and more house-sitting

I wrote about our friend’s Jersey herd. Her best cow died a few days ago leaving the young calf orphaned. It now gets bottle-fed twice a day and this will continue for quite a few more weeks. The calf runs with the rest of the cows during the day so it has company and will be learning its place in the herd. But it’s still sad to think it has lost its mother.
And we got another house-sitting position today. A lady rang and booked us for a week in November. We’ll be in a high-class house on a canal in Busselton, Western Australia, and we’ll have to take care of three quite elderly dogs. Two are rescue dogs and one is very ‘needy’ and needs lots of attention and pets. I think Vince will be just the person to look after her. Don’t you agree?
The photo is mine of our friend.

One of my brother-in-laws used to buy calves at an auction and bottle feed them until they could be weaned. When they were big enough, the calves wandered into their freezers for future meals. When I lived with my sister and her hubby, when I was 18, I helped with the bottle feeding.
Oh, good! I'm glad you and Vince get to have more house-sitting adventures.
What is a "flash house"?

@JudyEv On the farm, we let our cows wean the calves before we started milking the cows again.
I'm quite sure you will do fine in a "high-class and expensive" house.

@MALUSE Thanks but that's in German and my laptop won't translate it. I looked up "flash house" and oopsie! In English, it says it's a brothel.
I'm quite sure that's not what Judy meant.

My uncle had a dairy farm and he’d let my sister and I bottle feed the baby calf’s. It took both of us to hold the bottle.

@Treborika House-sitting is when the owners go away and someone moves into their house to look after any pets, pot plants, gardens, etc. And the house is not so likely to get broken into if there are people in it.

@Treborika We don't get paid for what we do but some people do. It depends on how much you have to do to take care of a property.

You seem to be multipurpose house sitters, who can tackle nearly anything.

I guess over the years you gain quite a bit of experience. Growing up on a farm, and later having a small holding means you've tackled quite a few things over the years.

@oahuwriter The younger generations celebrate Thanksgiving. It was never a thing when we were young so it doesn't mean much to us.

cute picture. I think my mother had bottle fed a calf once for a friend of hers. Then she and my uncle bottle fed a kitten.
