A pocket park - what a great description

I’ve just been reading the minutes of a meeting of the Board of Directors of the lifestyle village where we now live. They mention the ‘pocket parks’ which I thought was a great description of the three small areas within the village which are for community use. The photo shows a barbecue are opposite our front door. There is a gas barbecue and a table and bench, with a couple more benches around the corner to the left. Another pocket park has some basic exercise equipment and the third one is a mini putting green. Vince has gone to the cardiologist for a routine check and this afternoon we are catching a bus and train to the inner city to deliver some artichokes to a friend. I think we’re having roast pork for dinner. So all is well in my world and hopefully so in yours.

We have some small parks scattered around our city but not that small... They're still called "pocket parks" here, though. (They are places where someone abandoned their house and none of their family wanted the responsibility for it so the city demolished the house, planted grass and added some benches and tables. The city mows them and anyone can use them.) I hope your friends are home this time and you have a good time visiting with them.

@JudyEv No, they were no good. The houses would have taken too much work to make livable. The city insurance wouldn't have allowed them to be used for anything.

@DaddyEvil So in that case, that's a good outcome.

That's a good idea re demolishing unwanted houses - unless they could have used for the homeless I guess.

Nice pocket parks! Enjoy your visit and dinner! I cooked egg plant soup, added lotus roots and bamboo shoots. Warm soup over rice with these vegetables, nice and warming on this cloudy day with cool breezes.

@oahuwriter There are some meals that really suit cold days. My Mum would call such dishes meals that would 'stick to your ribs'.

We've used the barbecue a few times and Vince tried out his putting once but we haven't used the exercise equipment. There is also a well-equipped gym in the clubhouse.

@JudyEv We have barbecue pits and picnic tables that are used quite often and a-small putting green thats seldom used. I make use of the gym, especially in hot and cold weather.

There is never any litter. Everyone puts their rubbish where it should be and the place almost always looks like this.

I hope Vince's checkup goes fine. Pocket Park sounds fine. In some of the colonies in Delhi, the word Pocket is used instead of Blocks for s group of houses. May be that is what is being used here. Mini Putting Green? You mean for Golf?

@JudyEv You are back at your own home? Or still traveling to somewhere? I think I still need to do a catch up with some of your Posts. As of now we are in the midst of Diwali festival and you might find many Indian users not being that much active here.

The parks are nice to have around the place, what with so many houses so close together. Vince's check went well, thanks.

His blood pressure is a little high so he has been prescribed another pill. The little parks give a patch of green among all the houses.

Over here there is a movement to take over parking spaces as pocket parks. I like it, far too many cars in the city and it feels a bit more human with some greenery

@allknowing The facilities from village to village differ considerably. Some have a place to store caravans and some have workshops for the men or a community vegetable garden.

Apart from what's in our gated community there are also varied size parks in the immediate neighbourhood including two fenced 'dog play' areas, one for big dogs and one for little dogs plus several barbecue areas.
