So thankful for photos. Memories. Stories. They are all so close to my heart.
Was talking to a neighbor earlier about the knocks we don't hardly get any more from the trick or treaters on Halloween. There were a few last night. Probably a few later, since the holiday falls on Monday this year.
I was of course reminded of my son Dustin. This photo was taken on his second Halloween. He was two years old. This was his first Halloween after my divorce.
Back in the day when we could go to everyone's house. Knock on the door. Get lots of candy. And never worry about anything. No predators. No crime. Everyone was safe.
I remember at the end of the night, we both had two bags full of candy. He was so excited and was still learning all about Halloween. It was so funny. I can still remember him saying, Momma, can we go again tomorrow night?
So many memories to keep me going. He was a happy child right here. He wanted to sleep in his costume. Too funny. I hold onto these days. Those moments are of course very close to my heart.
Photo is mine. Taken back during the good days.

That is so adorable he asked if you guys could go again the following night. It really is so fun when they first start to enjoy things like that. It sure does make wonderful memories. I really didn’t want to go this year but my husband does. I’ll probably be happy about it later on as I would have felt like a bad mom if I didn’t take her. I’m just still in a funk over my husband not being here for my sons birthday.

Aw, what an adorable picture of such an adorable young soul.
I cannot say as though I blame him for thinking that going out at night and ringing doorbells and getting lots of candy was fun enough to do again the next night.
We will not have many at the door this year either, but they only go out on the 31st here.

@sallypup You have no idea. It truly is a parent's worst nightmare. And then some. I would not wish the pain on anyone. Oh my goodness about your Mother. I have never heard it said like that as a way of coping. But I truly understand her thoughts. The PTSD I have is also what will never seem to go away. It gets better of course but then visits out of nowhere at unexpected times always. Life should not be so hard.

@CarolDM O, Carol my dearest beautiful friend! Tears started coming at the start of reading through your post. Those were, indeed, precious and treasured memories.
Many times I don't like looking at old photos and thinking of memories of my children when they were little. They make me cry and feel very sad. If we were neighbours, I'd probably invite you and Ocean @RebeccasFarm for lunch or cappuccino at a country town cafe, or nature walk at the park or nearby forest. I really am a loner most of the time. :-)

@CarolDM People and family misjudge me as 'anti-social'. But, hey, I'm not the one calling names at people who I don't live up to their social norm and expectations. :-)

Now I have tears once again form reading your words. But that is nothing new for me. Precious indeed.
And you know we would be visiting each other often if only we were neighbors. How delightful that would be. Being a loner is not all bad. I enjoy my quiet alone time fairly often. So good to see you.
