I have a cousin with special needs. He is now 19 years old.He has autism, he happens to be the autistic type who doesn't speak at all. When I stayed at his house about 3 years ago, I had the opportunity to take care of my cousin. Even though he didn't speak, he understood, more than understood, he seemed to be a genius.
Taking care of him is sometimes easy, sometimes difficult. Especially when he started tantrums. Even so, my aunt really loves him.
Hopefully healthy always for my aunt and cousin

I am a special educator and work with students with special needs and their families. Many of them are autistic. Even my younger daughter is on spectrum.

@Herahestia93 I can't say that I am an expert but yes, I have learnt a lot in my journey. And still learning each day. Each child with autism is unique and has something to teach me.

Yes, I agree. Being a mother of a child with special needs is not easy. My aunt is a great and loving mother.

I worry about folks that have autism. One of my niece's son has autism. She is not a rich person. I'm not sure what they plan to do about the son. He is at least college age. I hope they will find a way for him to have a meaningful life that also brings in money.

@Herahestia93 Are there group homes for folks having such troubles in your country? Work programs?

Sounds like one of my nephews. He does not speak either but has special instincts and shows a lot of intelligence. He was quite okay , developing like a normal child including beginning to talk, then after 2 years he was diagnosed with autism. His parents blame it on the vaccines he was given as a baby.
