We've finished our brick-paving project

Yesterday, three of us finished a brick paving project that we started last Sunday, and which I’ve written about before. Vince, his brother and myself began work at 8am and finished about 4pm. It’s was my BIL’s birthday and he turned 73 so we’re all getting on in years. At morning tea, the lady-of-the-house gave BIL a cupcake with a sparkler in it so that was nice. We stayed with the BIL for the night and had a very pleasant evening. This morning, I am so stiff and sore I can hardly move. If I drop anything, I am really battling to pick it up. Vince isn’t much better. I sat on some sort of massaging pad this morning and it was really helpful. I am thinking of getting one of my own as I think it would be good for my back. You can see the ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos above. That's my niece and I in the photos. She was there on the first day. The levels and gradients were quite tricky but it’s turned out really well. The owners are thrilled and the rest of us feel very gratified too. It’s nice to be able to help others.

I was going to ask you how did you feel the money after. You worked many hours and that is a hard job. Congratulations to the three workers, you can pat your back, as you did a wonderful job.

It's very satisfying to see how well it turned out. The men did most of the heavy work really but I pitched in where I could and did some of the fiddly cutting and fitting.

@JudyEv Not sure if your BIL are fond of Ox.1946 is the year of Dog.Different from the Zodiac- 12 constellations ,we use one of the twelve animals to symbolize the year that we are born in.

We are seeing him again tomorrow. I will tell him he is an ox! It's okay. He will think it is funny. I was born in 1946. Can you tell me what I am please? I know I could look it up and I've done so before but have forgotten.

It really does look nice, Judy! Congrats on getting it finished! Take some pain reliever and do things slowly for a day or two.

We washed and swept down the whole area so it was lovely and clean. The wife had gone to visit the husband so, although it was mostly done before she left, the area hadn't been tidied up and swept.

You guys did an amazing job! It looks lovely. Happy Birthday to your BIL. Take a nice soaking bath in Epsom Salts. That should make you feel better.

Wow! That's a neat work there. You must be proud of yourself . Now your backs deserve rest and some bit of pampering with massage. I have asked my help to come in the afternoon for a massage. It's been a long and I have been having some tiredness and muscle pain lately. Wishing your BIL a year or health and happiness.. belated birthday wishes for him

There is a small celebration for him tomorrow and we'll be staying there again. I might make more use of his massage cushion.

@JudyEv Enjoy the celebration and the massage cushion . If you like it so much, it is a good idea to get one for yourself. Vince and you work a lot and you both deserve it.

The work looks perfect and so fine. I can understand feeling stiff and sore, that is really heavy and hard work. I hope that you can take it easy for a bit and rest those over-worked muscles. I am sure that the homeowners will long remember and appreciate this work of love that you did for them.

Thanks. I'm nearly back to just my normal stiffness which is something. My BIL has a massage cushion affair and I found that helpful. I might get myself one.

I have said this before This kind of work here is given on contract. I can never think of even laying a single brick. That is an accomplishment.

@JudyEv The kind of expertise I would have - I am no professional - we get such labour around here to do such jobs. They are called unskilled workers For example we would get our gardener to do such jobs and he is not an expert in this line But laying tiles in a house or even in a garden where cementing is required a professional would be employed. We call them masons.

@allknowing Quite a few men - and women - really enjoy doing their own repairs, renovations, etc. Our hardware stores are very huge but of course they service the professionals as well.

In today's climate, a professional brick-layer wouldn't be bothered with it. There is too much demand and for far easier jobs. But I do understand. It's not everyone's cup of tea.
