A Christmas barbecue with friends

Yesterday, we attended a Christmas barbecue in the village. There is a public barbecue area opposite our house so it’s very handy for us. The weather was perfect, there was a really good turnout of residents, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. There was only one small ‘incident’.
A woman insisted on taking her friends’ young Labrador for a walk, after being told twice that it was too strong for her. But she snatched the lead and went off. The dog returned without her shortly after. It had pulled her over and she had broken her arm.
Hopefully, they are still friends.
Vince took a lot of photos to put up on the FB site. This is of me with some friends. I’m the one in the hat.

Some people are a little stubborn...
I'm glad you told us which lady was you... I would never have picked you out among your friends.

@DaddyEvil We don't hang out much at all here with any of them. I see the lady-on-the-left most movie nights but rarely see the neighbour. But we chat if we're outside at the same time. Many meet up when they walk their dogs but we don't have a dog. We're happy with the status quo. We didn't want to be living in others' pockets.

@JudyEv I feel bad for the lady for not following everyone's warning. Good thing that those gatherings do happen in your neighborhood. Is the gathering organized or just an impromptu gathering where one neighbor would go out and others follow?

How awful about the broken arm! She should have listened to her friend. I LOVE the picture. Too bad you don't have one of you and Vince.

Gorgeous ladies, especially the one with the hat . I wish we had the same event here as well. But I experienced that when I visited relatives abroad. Indeed, they have a central plaza, where the people in the neighborhood converges and hold barbecue parties of Christmas parties or just simply enjoy tea and update each other.

Lovely photo Judy.
I am so sorry for that lady, people should listen. This is what happened to the mother of my sister in law when she insisted to walk the golden retriever of my niece. The dog pulled, she fell and broker her arm... and her upper teeth.

@JudyEv I'm sorry to hear that, I hope your friend gets better soon.
With, clearly, I could guess that it was you because it had your name on the chest.
Enjoy your barbecue with friends and family

You look so happy in that photo
I learned the hard way just how strong big puppies can be and a lab puppy is not one I would dare try to walk. I hope the lady will heal quickly and will remember just how dangerous it can be to walk a large breed puppy.

I'm glad you didn't say you were the one in the blue shirt. That would have really thrown us all off! haha
It's a great picture, Judy, and I can tell all of you were having such a great time!

@JudyEv Wow, that sounds like a nice gathering of friends and neighbors. I’m glad you had such a fun time! How often does the community get together like that?

@moffittjc Mostly, the social group plans things in the clubhouse and there are bus trips arranged from time to time too. Because the barbecue is virtually outside our door, if we see people there, we'd take a drink out and join them for a while.

Looks like a lovely gathering. Just can't get my head around celebrating Christmas in summer though. Do you do something else in the middle of winter to brighten up the darker days?
Hope the stubborn woman is OK and doesn't try to sue the dog's owner!
