A health Adventure

So, momma has been doctoring in Minneapolis which is an hour and half away from us. Complicating issues, it is a major metropolitan area which gets a lot of traffic. I do poorly in traffic, as does she. A lot of people don't understand this. Yes, I do drive. Yes, I'm a nervous driver. No, I don't willing put myself or others at danger, yes, it is worth it for me to not drive in conditions where I feel unsafe. Yes, I plan my routes out ahead of time, yes, I will drive longer if it means less getting triggered into an anxiety attack.
As a result of this - we have been blessed enough to find a volunteer driver who gets paid for mileage through a local organization.
However it adds a level of complexity to care and sometimes her appointments take all day.
So, happily she found an oncologist here in this area that she likes. She will keep her Dr. in Minneapolis, but be mainly seen by this one here. Making transportation much easier.
We went to see that new Dr. the other day.
To be honest I'm not sure what I think of this one.
She was kind, and suggested a few different things. However I felt like they were trying to push mom to not take treatments anymore. Yes, that means ... well... giving up. Essentially.
I know, they have to let people know all of their options, and that this is an option, but I just don't like how they dwelled on the negative.
There are more treatment options available for mom and mom says as long as there are treatments available she wants to keep trying YES that is my strong fighter momma.
So this Dr. wants to do all the scans and blood draws over again. Well, I guess that's natural... mom has had all that, but they want it done here, so they have their own, fresh copies of things. I guess that's what you want them to do, be thorough.
I just don't know what is better, trying this new Dr. out for the convivence of receiving treatment close to home, or staying with the old Dr. I guess if she doesn't like the level of care here she can always switch back.
On the upside there are lots of extra programs out here that we could participate in.
Free Reiki (energy work) mom is interested in. And Art therapy for Caregivers I'm interested in.
Please send your continued prayer and wishes that mom stays healthy and that this disease leaves her and that this is the right choice we're making.
Thanks all

Thanks, so true... so far we will see if we like what this Dr. recommends. If not, we go back to the first one. Thank you so much .

I spent part of my childhood in Mpls and St. Paul. I totally agree with you on not being willing to drive in gigantic city traffic. I live about an hour and a half from Seattle. I refuse to drive anywhere near there. It's not worth the horror and the what if a semi mows me down? The doctor near you is probably a capable doctor.

@FayeHazel Don't find your nervousness about driving in heavy traffic as a failing. Its not. Its called wanting to live!

Oh wow, small world :-) Seems like there is always something amazing or fun happening in MSP but yes, the drive to get there. Sorry you deal with it too, but it makes me feel so less alone that you know exactly what I mean about the driving. Yes, not worth the stress or potentially dangerous driving situation. Yeah I am hoping that this dr. just needs more time to get to know us.

@sallypup Thanks, I try not to be upset by it. Sometimes it's a hinderance ... and others don't get it. They say "just do it". But I don't believe in driving when I genuinely don't feel safe doing so, because like you say, it risks my life and the life of others, literally.
