Happy New Year from Volcanic Japan!

Japan
January 1, 2023 6:58pm CST
I spend the last 10 days on my favorite volcanic island, Sakurajima, working at the museum there. It was a lot of fun because now tourists are allowed into Japan. We had many tourists who needed an English speaker so I was very busy! Also the volcano gave us a few little insignificant eruptions, but was very quiet on the last couple of days I was there. I love going into nature when on holidays. Do you love to visit nature? Or do you live in a beautiful natural area?

Oh wow - that is where my dad was from - Kagoshima. I grew up seeing a framed photo of Sakurajima on our wall. We take a lot of walks through nature areas, but we have to drive to them . . . some places are not too far.

That sounds interesting. What is the predominant tree there or are there too many to list? Are there a lot of sea birds? Last Spring I moved from sage brush country to the coast of my state so I've had to get used to living in a different climate even though it is the same state. There are tons more trees here and I love that.

The area I live in is surrounded by hills all around. There are lots of wild life in those hills. Some bears, coougars and deers.
