A piece of bread and butter please

I put up a photo of my brother and sister and mentioned in the comments that my sister was very shy. My parents were living on a farm when the children were little and they had very little social interaction with others, either children or adults. One Christmas, I guess the kids were about four or five, they were taken to a Christmas celebration at the local hall. This was put on every year for the children of the district. When they sat down to have a meal which included all sorts of goodies that children would usually fight over, my sister sat quietly. When someone asked her what she’d like to eat, she apparently said ‘just a piece of bread and butter, please’. The photo is another one of my siblings. It is just so cute.

@JudyEv Freshly baked daily, flaky crust, soft innards... what's not to like?

I could have lived on bread and butter in France. The bread was out of this world.

@JudyEv awww how cute! Well hey bread and butter is one of the nicest snacks out there! Cute answer though I must say. I wonder if she wanted more but was too shy to ask?

She probably felt completely out of her depth and thought she'd be safe asking for bread and butter.

I'm sorry it was upside down. It looks okay to me. Have you had some photos showing up as distorted? I've had that but mostly from the one member.

@JudyEv I see it upside down and I am using my computer. It does not happen often that I see a photo upside down.

I wonder if she often wished later that she'd had fairy bread or something fancy. I also wonder if they were able to supply pure bread and butter.

Then you were basically an only child when you were a toddler. Were there other children around when you were 4 or 5?

They were eight years older than me so I don't really know. My brother had really bad eyesight so I think it might have been the other way around.

@rebelann You're right. I might have been an only child and living on a farm I had very little contact with kids my age till I went to school.

They had very few chances to socialise and/or to get to know other children.

Did you have the chance to interact with other children when you were little? My sister and brother would have almost no chance at all.

@JudyEv Oh yes. Growing up in Philadelphia there were 100s of kids in our area. I grew up in a row home, I attached a picture to give you an idea. A row home was 10 homes connected to make up a block. Plenty of kids to play with. I am a very shy person. Even after I get to know someone I still am quiet.

The beginning of a family story. It is cute. Little kids are pretty much innocent. The first time I took my kids to see Santa my son was barely four. He asked for two pairs of shoes.

The kid was really very shy and coward I must say. Taking into account of all the Christmas goodies at the hall and the kid not showing any signs of craving on any. Not until a person asks what he could eat and saying just a bread and butter for sure.
