My OCD and MyLot. If I Unfollowed you, I'm sorry. Let me explain....

January 6, 2023 2:08am CST
So I suffer with OCD. Most people who learn this about me ask if I need to wash my hands a lot. The answer is no. I'm not that type of OCD. Yes, if my hands are dirty, I wash them. Yes, I prefer things to be cleaned & organised but sometimes it conflicts with my depression so I don't always feel motivated to be that way. I have certain things I feel I HAVE to do. Some "rituals" as it's called. Some I've stopped completely over the years. I KNOW these rituals don't change the outcome of anything. Yet it's hard to manage sometimes. I've had this issue since I was very little. I could go on about rituals & intrusive thoughts but I won't. Because I actually want to discuss my OCD with MyLot. I MyLot but there is a particular way I want to MyLot. I wanted to talk about it years ago but was embarrassed but I want to now. I just Unfollowed everyone. I want to follow you again though! It's not about you I promise! I want to do this right so I can stop feeling overwhelmed when coming on here. I like to randomly answer people & enjoy posting Discussions. But when I like talking to someone, I want to answer all of their Discussions or at least give it all a Like. Then I Follow them so I can keep up with them. This is overwhelming but I can't feel comfortable unless I do it this way. I never bombard anyone though! I also ONLY give a Like if their old Discussion is sad. I don't wish for anyone to be reminded of really sad things. Some MyLotters know this about me & I've appreciated them letting me answer their Discussions until I'm caught up so I can then Follow them. I wanted to explain in case anyone wondered what the heck I'm doing. It's just OCD. I take pride in answering EVERYONE back even if they don't with me. I've been slacking lately though. So I also want to go through all my Discussions soon to catch what I missed. So just to recap: *I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder & do things in certain ways even if people don't understand it. It's ok, it's MY problem anyway. *I like to Follow MyLotters AFTER I've answered all their Discussions. *I don't bombard, I do it over a LONG period of time so hence why old Discussions pop up. I truly hope this made sense! Thank you for reading. I look forward to being on here like I used to be. (yes, I am seeking help with my OCD) ****photo I had saved on my laptop. I'm glad it's all neat lol****

I shut off the notification of someone following or un-following me my second or third day here... I didn't see the purpose in following anyone. I HAVE followed a few people after I talked with them a long time but still don't follow everyone I talk with. I talk with anyone needing electronic help and also talk with anyone who has an interesting topic in a discussion... *shrug*

You can count on us if you want to have a friend to talk. We are here, i am here, like always. I'm with you, Dani, hang on there.

After reading your post, I don't think there is anything wrong. Though I'm ok with a messed-up house and I'm surely not an organised one, I still can understand what you are going through. Don't feel embarrassed, just take life as it is, I think your OCD is cool only on the occassion that you don't push yourself too hard!

Nothing to be embarrassed about. We all have flaws and I am dyslexic which I always get called out on eventually even if some one knows. Our brains are funny things and to me I never got mad at it, maybe I did,, but learned from some cool people here we can right that wrong. Just be you, and most people love anyone, its when they start thinking they better than everyone they have a problem.

@crossbones27 An answer like yours really helps put my mind at ease and feel comfortable. Thank you so kindly for your comment and understanding. And thank you for explaining something about you too. That means a lot. But yes I agree. It's people who think they are better than others or judge others is when I start to crumble and feel small.

Thanks for updating and clarifying this with everyone. I've always been under the belief that a person needs to do whatever they need to do to help them feel safe, happy or content. And you know I've always supported and loved you unconditionally since the day we first met. And that will never change, OCD or not! Our time together on myLot should always be enjoyable, and not stressful or overwhelming. I always enjoy interacting with you, but never complain if you don't respond in a timely manner. I know in my heart that you will always respond to me when the time is right. Happy New Year to you Danielle. I look forward to having a great year interacting with you!

@moffittjc THAT....made me tear up! Not only because it was absolutely a beautiful comment but it means a lot to be reassured by those I love, that they still care / love me too. I was just saying to a friend earlier that I'm extremely sensitive at the moment with some things and mentally haven't been well to the point I actually believe I am alone. I know this isn't the case but sometimes the brain likes to be tricky. Just, thank you Jeff for your wonderful comment right there. I hope we are friends always with or without MyLot.

I remember some of the discussions that we interacted on. You are undergoing through a lot. I know of some close folks who have been through similar happenings. While I cannot feel the pain, I know how tough it can be. For some people in society, such conditions can feel like a joke. But not for me. These things should make one feel the affected person motivated and not feel let down. I think by sharing your condition here, you have in fact done the right thing. There are some very positive folks here. You can also become active here again and enjoy the different discussions here.

Thanks for sharing your OCD. I also answer all my notifications and I comment on all the new discussions I find. I know I miss some. I think I do follow most people that comment on my discussions but I’m not sure. I don’t write a discussion every day. I think I’ve read a few of your discussions! I’m not sure. Feel free to discuss your oCD as much as you like.

@RubyHawk I know I've had interactions with you but not a lot but I'm always happy to hear from those I don't talk to much as I am shy, but I want to know as many people here. But "know" them as more than just a name. I feel it's important for this community to be comfortable with each other as much as possible. Thank you so very much for reading, answering and taking the time to understand me and making me feel alright about how I am. Your comment means a lot to me! Thank you!

@VivaLaDani13 I like my record albums alphabetized and in chronological order. For a long time, that was a struggle for me because I didn't know where to place the Kiss solo albums. To me, I could not place them under Criss, Frehley, Simmons, and Stanley. They had to be placed under Kiss, but their studio released their album, "Double Platinum" that year, too, and as a child, everyone's records were in the living room, so I had no control and lost track of when we got the albums. Since the World Wide Web and Wikipedia came into being, I now have a rough idea. They released "Double Platinum" on April 2, 1978, and the solo albums on September 18, 1978. Because of the recording dates, I still don't know where to place Gene Simmons' and Peter Criss', though, unless I do theirs alphabetically. Stanley: February–July 1978 Criss: April–July 1978 Simmons: April–July 1978 Frehley: June–July 1978

@Chellezhere I completely understand where you are coming from with this! I struggle with stuff like this and it does my head in if I cannot find a way to sort things out. It is a nice feeling once something like this can be set in a way that is satisfactory!

I am little by little unfollowing people. I prefer to go through the "Most Recent Discussions" and read the posts that I judge interesting. The users are a lot less than in the past, no need to only have a look at those I follow.

@LadyDuck I agree. No point if none of them is active. I was getting sad yesterday because I followed MyLot Bugs (cause you know how I'm starting over re-following once I read / Like posts) and as I was going through the posts I could see some people who are no longer here due to passing. It was weird reading what they once wrote.

I have a form of OCD and have ADHD. The combo can be a challenge. I have a way of doing things and will do a lot of deleting to "clean" out. I work on my notifications the same as I do my emails, reading, answering or putting into folders and deleting. Usually, when I hit 100 discussions, I go through and delete old ones that either didn't get anyone talking to me or circumstances changed. I get you.

@noni1959 That is true. I'm getting a little bit better not caring what people judge me about because it's quite ignorant in a way for people to judge anyone especially if it's something they don't understand. I'm glad you're thinking this way too because really, it's our lives, not theirs.

@noni1959 Thank you so much for sharing how you use MyLot and for just sharing your OCD and ADHD. I know it's not always easy bringing it up into conversations. Usually it's hard because people can judge but I'm grateful for how MyLotters can be and that is understanding and supportive. So thank you so much for being just that and for telling me how you use MyLot in a way that suits you. Hope you're well!
