It happened in Virginia and police say that it wasn't an accidental shooting. A SIX YEAR OLD CHILD had access to a loaded weapon and brought it to school. Apparently after some kind of disagreement the student shot the teacher with a firearm he brought from home.
The teacher is currently listed in critical condition but doctors have hopes for improvement. The child is in police custody and it seems that they want to transfer him to a hospital or other facility to evaluate his mental state.
This. Is. Effing. Disgusting. As a teacher I am SICK AND TIRED of having to fear for my life every day due to school shootings. The helicopter parents, the apathetic parents, the disrespectful students, the administration allowing students to do what they want. . . that is bad enough. I draw the line at getting shot at work because a student is pissed at me or just life in general.
Screw the 2nd Amendment. It was written in a time when guns weren't as powerful as they are today. People who feel the need to walk around packing guns need to look into their minds and ask why. Everyone thinks New Jersey is some slum but we can't open or close carry firearms. I've gotten to the ripe old age of 40+ without them. I am not worried about being shot at the local Dunkin.
I have absolutely no tolerance for anyone who advocates for AR-15s for the regular public. No one needs them. I also am not in favor of loose gun regulation where you can have a 6 year old having access to a loaded weapon that parents don't notice that he took to school. I am so sick of being a potential target. This country has a serious gun problem.

I recently lived in Fairfax county, Virginia where all schools have detectors on each door so no weapons can be brought in. That is crazy and I do see and I have seen the past few years that parents are not paying close enough attention to their children.

A six-year-old???
You know, I was thinking how nice it was that nobody asked anything about Damar Hamlin’s politics, beliefs, religion, or anything else. Everybody just prayed for him. (There was even a guy on Twitter who said he was an atheist and had never prayed before, but he was going to this time.)
Why can’t we do that when things are “normal”?

We heard this. But never heard all of it. Thanks for sharing. I don't blame you.

It really angers me to read this. Are the parents going to be charged? Also, if I was the teacher and survives, once I healed up, I would change professions, preferably a job where there is not much dealing with people.

That's a very tragic story. The family must be investigated and not only the child should undergo mental test, something could be wrong in his home.environment.

That is unbelievable! Other than testing the child's mental state, investigations should be carried out regarding the child's parents. How they allowed the child to gain access to such a weapon.
