January Blues?

Are you the kind of person who would plan and budget carefully or are you a shopoholic ?- especially during the holidays. Yesterday l heard a woman in the market complaining that she was near broke and it was not yet mid January. She is not alone, many persons find themselves in a bind January and February after overspending during the Christmas holidays. What about you? Did you overspend during the Christmas holidays ? Or did you plan and spend wisely.

We have very few to buy for now so Christmas is very quiet and not really expensive for us. I think some families go over the top when buying for Christmas gifts.

I agree with you there. Some families overspend on gifts.

Other families do it as a tradition and its something they inherited from their parents and spending is in their DNA.

I spend nothing over the holidays any more. But I get the blues during the winter for other reasons.

No issues there. When anything is need based I do not even look at the price.

I spent nothing at all during the Christmas holiday. I did not buy more food than usual and we did not exchange presents. We celebrated without getting broke.

Nope... We don't have the money to overspend. During the holidays or not.

@DaddyEvil. Many people were out of jobs during the height of covid. Some became entrepreneurs and never returned.

I would say that I usually spend wisely. I just buy things I need. My Christmas spending was within budget.

Actually I spent under what I should have, but still having to make payments on that. Which is making it hard! I have never had a income of being able be a shopaholic.

You are right. One has to have a certain kind of income to be a shopoholic.

I actually did not spend very much at all as we didn't exactly celebrate (end of this year we go back to celebrating). I try very hard not to overspend on anything these days . . . it pays to save!!

We planned and spent wisely. We know exactly what to do and how to fix it. I've been living on a fixed monthly income my entire adult life, so I really know how to manage my money.

That's great. A lot of persons spend what they don't have. Meaning, they spend money already earmarked for utilities etc.

Its true that most throw caution to the wind and indulge in overspending during festive season only to realise that January is not a joke. Sometimes little planning ahead is the best way.
