Went Hiking Today

My oldest grandson and I went to Silver Falls, OR today while there was a lull in the rain.
Silver Falls is a state park in the Cascade Mountains, about 26 miles from where I live. It takes about 45 minutes due to the roads to get there. It has a 7.2 round trip hiking trail that takes you to 10 different waterfalls. You can make it a shorter hike taking different trails and go back up to where you started, or you can hike one specific trail to the other end and walk 2.1 miles. But, if you want to see all the falls, you do all the trails and loops to walk 7.2 miles.
The trail goes along a rocky canyon and in some places, beautiful cavern like sittings. It says no pets but it never fails, every time I go, someone has a dog off a leash walking.
The photo of the stairs is what I took today, and I climbed those back up with knees screaming all the way. I figure my knees are shot and have to be replaced anyway so why not enjoy something I've missed.
There are other stairs below that with one pretty scary and my grandson helped me walk the rocky area beside it to get down.
In the state park area, there is a cabin rental, lodge, horse camp, and at the south end, a beautiful day area with a cafe, gift shop, and lodge you can sit by a fire.
We started at the remote north end walking about two miles total. Then drove to the south end and walked a bit more before stopping at the gift shop and then for coffee.
I'm very sore tonight but it was a good day. I love the forest. How was your day?

I have actually been to that park. My sister and I spent over a week, just wondering around Oregon. We stayed a night by Multnomah Falls, went to some wineries, some waterfalls...ended up at Depoe Bay, which I immediately and completely fell in love with. I want to go back there sometime.
Glad you had a good day with your grandson! Those days are priceless.

How wonderful you got to spend some time here. I pass by Multnomah Falls parking area on my way to my son's and still have not stopped. It's a plan very soon. I love Depoe Bay. I've stayed in Lincoln City and Newport and going to stay at the SPC Depot Bay soon.

I cannot remember the name of the place we stayed in Depoe Bay. It was a very new Bed and Breakfast at the time, so nice, fireplaces in the rooms. It overlooked the bay, and wasn't far from Gracie's. Hey, is Gracie's still there?
I thought Depoe Bay was simply charming. I could have enjoyed staying there for days and days! Oh, and I hope you do go to Multnomah Falls sometime soon, it's worth the trip.

@MarieCoyle Gracie's Sea Hag? Yes, and the food is just as good. Great clam chowder.

@DaddyEvil I used to do that when I was younger but barely make it past the time it is now. Ah, old age has crept up.

@LadyDuck That is some good distance. We are being hit with more ice so have to be careful. I plan to go back to the North end Friday but will see with the stairs since those are already pretty slick. I'm thinking about going to another area to see how I like the trail.

@JudyEv Oh, no. I have a way to go. I'm trying to build up strength and of course lose weight. I see my knee surgeon Monday and hope I can get a date that will finally stick. In the meantime, I want to build up more for a better recovery.

I was wondering if I was reading how you would do that long hike but was glad to see you did one of the shorter ones.

That's a lot of steps. I love the forest too. I remember when we went to San Fransisco once years ago. The Redwoods were lovely. Steps down to the ocean were like those in your picture.

That sounds like a beautiful area to hike. I would be in heaven if I lived out where you live.
