In my country Philippines, we are obliged to register our sim cards. I got the link where to register and did not have a second thought. According to news article that I read, the deadline will be on April. If we failed to do this, our sim cards will be deactivated. Do sim cards in your country need to be registered?

Yeah, I know. @DevMrSamEleazar was fussing about registering his SIM one day last week. No, it only has to be activated by paying for it. Once the cash register receives the money to pay for the SIM, then we can put it into the phone and use it. (Paying cash means nobody knows who owns the SIM... ) Phones with unregistered SIMs here are called "burner" phones and there's no way to trace them.

I think when I was with T-Mobile, we asked our customers to register their SIM cards. We keep their names on our database.

@DaddyEvil I worked in the prepaid department, when people activated their T-Mobile SIM, they will call us to ask help. We took the chance to ask them for their information but not forced you are right. They can use pen names.

@jobelbojel The customer can be asked to register their SIM card here but can't be forced. Only the people on a contract are registered. Of course, I've had my SIM for a lot of years so, even though it's not registered to me, all someone has to do is look online and my name is linked to my phone number which is linked to my SIM. *shrug*

We have to give our documents at the moment we buy the SIM. The place where we buy, immediately send all our data to the SIM card provider. It is mandatory.

It is also the same in Tajikistan. In fact, I always change my sim cards there because I am not allowed to have one. The locals are only possible to hold their own sim cards.

Our SIM cards for phones are automatically registered when you buy them, as you have to give all your details.

I also think it should be in the first place. I lost my reference number after registering it online. I cannot find the snapshot of it.

I am glad that your government is not asking the locals to do it.

In my view, it is best to do this for security reasons.

We are both from the Philippines and I own both a prepaid and post paid sim cards, for the post paid account there's no need to register because it is done already by the network. For my prepaid account during the first few months I wasn't able to register since it cannot handle the influx but after 2 months it was easy breezy to do it.

Yes, I have registered and what I know here is that you can only have 5 numbers with the same ID.
