She Must Be Happy

Saw a current photo of an acquaintace of mine who I last met almost 15 years ago. The last time we chatted to each other, she just got married to a guy who had just divorced his 8th wife.
From her latest photo, she must be happy since she put on a lot (and a lot) of weight and she had such a relaxed and blissful smile, to the extent that I could hardly see her eyes.... Let say that she seems to lose all her sharp and uniquely odd features. Now, she just looks ordinary and unrecognizable.
An article I read, says people who are happily married, often dress up shabbily and careless about their weight or how they look in general.
Do you think that is true? (I often observe couples who have been with each other for decades, they do have a relaxed attitude and most often don't worry too much about what they wear.)

That's too bad your friend gained that much weight.
My friends and I try to take care of ourselves for our own peace of mind and for our husbands. Fashion has always played a part in my lifestyle. I got it from my mother and my father's mother. Lots of stories about that

I think people in general tend to gain weight as they get older. If they become single many try to work out harder to look better but then after they meet someone perhaps they want to spend more time with them instead of working out as much and then the weight comes back. I’m not the common case I’ve only put on two pounds since high school and have had three kids. I feel for those who struggle with their weight and self confidence.

A Greek acquaintance told me that she was so shocked seeing many people in the US, Australia & New Zealand, dressed up so casual in not trendy fashions when they were out of the house. THAT used to annoy her badly when she first migrated with her husband. A decade passed, and these days, she enjoys wearing any comfortable clothes instead.

@rebelann That Greek lady told me Europeans always dress up for their outings. As a Greek, she dressed up as other Europeans, and had a despite towards anyone who did things differently. What you just said, made me laugh, thinking back at my Greek's acquaintance. (I saw her just a few weeks ago, shabby, happy...)

That friend of mine who put on weight, did complain about this 15 yrs ago. She said, 'hey, I don't have any children, why I am still putting on weight like others?' (But when I met her then, she was still fine, just like an average size 10. As a primary school kid, she was ordinary in regards of size and weight too.)
I hope I can find out the mystery (of why she looks that blissful and on the verge of obese like that).

Odd that anyone would do that. Dressing up is for one's own happiness and maintaining one's weight is again for good health.

I don’t know about the “marriage” part, but I am perfectly content with my life, so you won’t see me dressed up beyond what I’m wearing now (which is jeans, a sweatshirt, and my Buc-ee’s hoodie). Maybe it’s the content people who know what’s important and what isn’t.

That is for sure, the fact that couples tend to look so like each other after years being with each other. BUT I have noticed the same thing applied when some adopted children look so like their adoptive parents after a few decades with each other. (I watched some programs about children from war torn (South East Asia) countries, got adopted into American families. Two decades or more later, their real parents found them, but by then, those kids/adults look more like their American parents than their birth parents for some reason! This observation to me, is quite fascinating!)

Sorry your friend gained weight. My best friend isn't married, but she had said how she loves to wear big comfortable clothes. She has lost weight with the Keto diet. For me I have gained some weight. I'm not married either.

Some women tell themselves - "l already got the ring , no need to stress myself unduly". Getting the ring is one thing, keeping the husband is another .A marriage is not a forever honeymoon, both parties must work towards making it last. Which includes taking care of oneself and each other.

I think that the guy she married has fallen in love for what´s inside of her not the outside
