What Is Up With Tech?

I always thought people who were employed in technology would always have a job. But it seem more and more layoffs are occurring all the time. But, what I can't understand is why. I think it's bad to lose your job anyway regardless of your pay. But tech savvy people can earn a lot of money. So can someone please help me to understand what is going on with the tech world?

With the regular public becoming more and more tech savvy, companies feel they no longer need specialists to explain new tech as it comes out for sale so salespeople for technology are being "let go". People already know what to expect and don't need anyone to explain the differences in the different items anymore.
That's my assumption based on what was happening when I still worked at Walmart in their Electronics Department.

@popciclecold They're throwing low level tech people to the wolves to cut costs. We either learn a new job or, like me, are forced to retire early in whatever way we can.

@popciclecold There is more technology every day, seems like it would take more workers.

Supply and demand would be my best guess. The demand is lower, or companies are finding applicants willing to work for less pay. As technology advances, you need less manpower than you did ten years ago. Or, even a year ago. And, don't get me started on right to repair. That's another can of worms.

I remember when I started out in the working world, I went to school to be a keypunch operator and it was a good position for about 15 years but tech changed and suddenly there were desktop computers everywhere which required a different kind of skill so I had to adapt to the new rules and try to find a place within it, keypunch operators weren't required anymore.
When it comes to technology things are constantly changing with businesses being the ones to 'wait and see' before getting on board with any new tech but once they do they have to find the employees who understand that new tech which also means either retraining current employees or hiring someone already trained.

It's nothing but a trick to employ tech savvy professionals at a cheaper. When there are so many IT officials searching for jobs, the employers will play their Trump card. That's how management professionals lost their value. Now management professionals are paid less than IT professionals.

@popciclecold Yes, that's true but the employees themselves have to solve their own problem.

Greed. Pure and simple, greed.
I think the technology job market is pretty saturated, especially in the area where I live. Also, with fewer people being needed to come into the office, fewer people are needed to work as custodial, cafeteria workers, security guards, valets, shuttle drivers, etc. Other people are going to lose their jobs in the next month or so, we're just not going to hear about them as much because they're the "little people".
