Our little chick is doing well

Those who read my discussions would know that we took a newly hatched chick to the house after it hatched out on its own a day after the two hens and other chicks had left the nest. It was very wobbly and I thought the hens might reject it which they will sometimes do. Survival of the fittest and all that.
We heard today that the chick is doing well and has been placed back with the others. However, one of the previous chicks has died which is a shame.
I’ve put up the photo before of one of the hens with a chick.

My parents tried hatching chicken/duck eggs like that using some sort of incubators long time ago. The young ones could die easily I heard. Glad that my parents stopped that after a few years. (The ducklings/chooks dirtied the floors inside the house so fast and I was the one who must keep it clean.)

The chick looks cute. Is that the mother of the chick?

@aninditasen Yes, I don't think they really know the difference. They get a bit worried if they have hatched out little ducklings and then the ducklings want to spend all their time in the waterbowl.

@JudyEv I see. Will the hen on which it's sitting take care of the chick as it's own?

I’m glad to hear that the baby chick is doing well. That’s sad about the other.

Do you know why the one chick didn’t make it?

Yes, it's really good news. I honestly didn't think it would live overnight.

My neighbors across the road bought a rooster and a couple of hens recently. In the upcoming months they should be producing eggs

It's a shame about the one chick but great news about the other.
