A Bunch of Red Onions in a Wedding

A wedding recently took place in Iloilo City, Philippines. Red onions were used in place of the customary bridal flowers in the bouquet. Perceptions can be categorized into two categories: unique or not. Bashers made the assertion that they were all terrible luck. What do you think of it?

I suppose it's something a bit different but I wouldn't like onions for my bridal bouquet.

Onions are associated to "tears", what a weird idea.

@LadyDuck I think it is weird too. Perhaps her parents are onion-growers.

More like a political statement as the prices of onions cannot be controlled by the government and they are considered a priced commodity nowadays.

@cacay1 It's time to put a stop to these cartels who try to make it seem like there's a shortage of something in order to justify skyrocketing pricing.

@rsa101 I'm wondering why onions are so expensive this time. It's 700 pesos a kilo here in Cagayan de Oro City.

I was too busy looking at all the faces of the people there (they are so similar somehow, until I suddenly figure out that they are either from the same country, and perhaps, some in that group are even close relatives to each other.) It is funny (after reading your post) when I look at the photo again. hehehe.... Onions are smelly aren't they? Aren't they worried of having that raw onion smells stuck to their pretty gowns? (Wouldn't garlics mix with onions look better?)

@YrNemo It seems like you are reading my mind. I also thought how do they smell like while walking inside the church. I bet the red onions boquet would be painful if the bride will throw it.

I just wonder why they did it. Any message they want to express?

I think the wreaths the bridesmaids are carrying look nice but I don’t like the brides bouquet at all!

Interesting alternative to flowers, I have never heard of doing this before. Do you know why they did that?

Since the red onions are expensive here in my country, they seem to show how expensive they are now.

They're breaking the custom of the Filipinos during wedding instead of roses onions. That's insanity.

You said it right. It seems like they are showing that they can afford to buy them, which they are still pricey up to this day. It is not a good thing though.

@Shavkat that's so right it's no match to the lavished wedding.
