Does money help us to overcome depression?

My mom said that money can help me overcome depression. She wants me to do therapy with other people. But how can I help others if I can't help myself? Now I have a part time job, I earned money and I bought everything I needed. Those things didn't make me happy. I bought a new phone, a computer and a monitor. I didn't feel joy even if I needed all those things. I wonder why I can't be happy even if I could buy so many things. So in my case money doesn't help so much.

Well if that money could buy the medicines to control or stop your depression it might help. But most probably it might not be able to help you completely since depression is not only about money but many factors and is unique from person to person.

@dya80dya I am aware that depression is a serious condition, and various people will approach coping mechanisms in different ways. One solution is medical intervention, but as in your case, it is ineffective. It would be wise to seek the advice of a competent psychologist who can show you how to handle the situation.

It's a very old saying that Money can not buy happiness. And it's very deep.
I am very sorry that you are feeling depressed. Is there anything that makes you happy? Music? Walk? Nature? Art? Specialisation? Games? Happiness is in the little joys around us. Many a times you don't need money to enjoy them.
Take care.

For me money is effective to cure my depression. I feel a lot better if I have money. I feel more energetic and positive when I have money. So when I have little money depression sets in

Some people, myself included, can live life without being overly happy.
Life just goes on, and we live it in one way, or another.
I think it is more important to try to be a kind, honest, loving, compassionate, and understanding person, than a happy one.

I do not think money will help anyone with a very bad case of depression. Depression is an illness that has many causes, perhaps you should find out what is making you feel so depressed. Maybe your mother meant that poor people suffer more with depression because they are always worried about paying for the things they need. Poorer people often miss out on the things they want because they cannot afford to treat themselves to luxuries. This can make them miserable especially if it seems like everybody else is able to buy what ever they want.

From what i understand, i believe money simply gives a false sense of happiness. When you bought the new phones and all that, i am pretty sure you where excited about it. But that's just it. Many tend to take that short period of happiness as a cure for depression. The worst thing you would ever do is place your happiness on material things. Rather take some time to find out what's missing. Make yourself happy cause no one else would do it better.

Try to do the things that you like most and try thinking about your past success that make you happy and feel good about yourself . Always keep yourself busy with activities that you enjoy. You will overcome depression soon .Keep trying it friend.

All I can say is what works for me. And it has nothing to do with money or any material things. I became happy inside when I said to heck with what others think, I forgave others for things they had done or said, even if I never forget, and I started on my journey. You have to find your own happiness from inside you. And you are the only one that can do that. I wish you luck in doing just that. We all deserve happiness.
