I've been working with another site for a few months now. I applied and qualified as a moderator when the previous owner was hiring. I was advised that I would not yet receive payment before the site was sold to the new owner. The website is not yet well-known, which is the cause. I am essentially working pro bono.
Would you accept that offer?

I was an unpaid moderator on WebAnswers when it was a well-known site.

@Shavkat That's how it was on WebAnswers. One moderator only cared about making new categories and ignored the rest of the duties. Others were only there for a short time each day.

@DaddyEvil Some of the oldies there tend to be over confident. For example, I deleted some threads because they are similar topics that were posted in the past. Then, the member is trying to insist that it is not. Oh, well. I just ask this person to report to the owner and let's see what is the course of action.

It depends on how committed are you to this site and how willing are you to work pro bono with them. I think if you enjoy your being the moderator on this site why not continue on doing so? But if being the moderator would eat your time and efforts that would affect your productivity, I guess you have to decide on giving them up since I think doing that job entails some responsibility that should be comepnsated too.

For a period of time probono may work but sooner or later one will find monetization for every work done.

@Shavkat Maybe you're just being tested on a trial period. The pay might depend on your performance during this period. Just put your best foot forward.
