It is raining and there is no better plan in the weekend. So I told my son go to see a movie in a cinema. To my surprise, he said he was not interested as one of the current popular movies last for 2 hours and 55 minutes. He said it was quite long for him.
This is an interesting found. I agree that it is a long movie. But it also seems today the children don't want to watch a movie so much. Sometimes they even just watch the review videos about the movies and that's it. As the reviews videos can already explain the movies very well and it is no need to spend longer time watch the whole movie.

I don’t know that long movies have ever been popular. “Epic” films like Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments had built-in intermissions because they were so long.

Some War and Historical or Fantasy movies tend to be long.
We had a popular war movie in 2003 that was even 3.5 hours! Not something easily watchable at a stretch in the hall.
May be today people don't want to watch longer content in part due to a lot of Series in Streaming media like Netflix, Amazon Prime etc.

They seem to be in too much of a hurry nowadays.

A 3 hour movie would tax me to sit still long enough to watch it to the end. Most of the time, the reviews show the best parts of the movie anyway, so why waste money watching the entire thing? It sounds like your son is practical as well as frugal.
I still watch movies online that last less than 2 hours. I've been watching some while I'm awake at night and nobody is talking with me on myLot.

@youless Depending on their age, they could be watching Tik Tok videos or making Tik Tok videos to earn money.

Most blockbuster movies these days go as long as three hours, I will take in a two hour movie instead.

I don't mind long movies as long as they are good. The Sound of Music and The Pianist were my favorite movies.

People's attention span have indeed become shorter the past couple of years, I think. Maybe it's because society nowadays seem to prioritize all things 'instant'. It's sad to think that this extends to something as wonderful as movies.
