My mother and my sister don’t have a car so last Sunday I picked them up and we went to the newly opened playground park in my city. Well, it opened months ago but our schedules won’t match but finally we could all agree to go there that day. My nephews and niece were very happy to see the colorful playground. Their excitement was so contagious that even the adults, including me, tried the swing and the seesaw and ohhh the monkey bars too. Lol The playground is near the new coastal road so we could smell the fresh salty air and the light breeze was so refreshing. It wasn’t so hot and it didn’t rain. Thank you weather gods for cooperating.
Photo is of this piko flag (I Googled it and it is called hopscotch, not sure if it’s correct) which reminded me and my sister of how we used to play and fight tooth and nails to win as many ‘homes’ as we could. Lol Sadly, I don’t see kids play piko nowadays.
How do you call this game in your country? Did you ever play it?

That´s exactly how we made it. We stole bits of chalk from the classroom to draw them.

@marguicha we used pointed sticks to draw the ‘flag’ on the soill/ground. Not so many cemented/paved roads back then and we would get really dirty when we got back home.

I can now see that I never mastered the game, but I did observe others play, which explains why I truly had no idea how to play it or what the rules were. Simply jumping here and there while a stone is being tossed there is what I enjoy seeing.

Yes I used to play hopscotch. It was one of my favorite games as a child, that and double dutch skip rope.
This playground sounds so amazing and right by the sea air I would love it

We played hopscotch when I was in grade school but I haven't seen anyone playing it in years. Pretty hated the game when she was little.
I'm glad you all had a good time at the new-ish park.

@sol_cee I don't know. I never asked her. As far as I can remember, she preferred playing kickball and jump rope over anything else.

@aninditasen thank you for explaining. You seem to like board games

@sol_cee It is a board with squares of four colours. You choose your own colour and throw the dice. If the dice shows 6 the game starts for you. You have to gradually move through the house boxes to reach a square called home.

I remember it for being hopscotch when I was growing up in the States and I believe I did play it. I came to live in Israel as an adult and have seen kids playing that and jump rope too. In Hebrew this is what it is: ???? which is hopscotch in English.

A little like a game that in Indonesia is usually called "Sundamanda". Yes, I used to play it when I was little with my friends, plane sundamanda and mountain sundamanda.

As others have already said - hopscotch - but the one in your photo is different from the version I grew up with it (more like the ones in the comments - just the squares). I've seen kids play it at school, but I don't see kids drawing that on sidewalks or at the parks anymore. That used to be so much fun!!

My photo shows our version and if you’re familiar with the Philippine flag, you’ll see the similarity. That’s why we call it piko flag. I would always be the one assigned to draw the flag using pointed sticks on the ground because my lines were so defined lol at least that was my playmates told me before (or maybe it was their ploy to make me do it? )

Hopscotch!!! We used to draw out the layout with chalk on asphalt streets or on concrete.

@sol_cee Haha I wish. The girls were always so much better at it than the boys.

@sol_cee I don' recall that. We probably didn't take it too seriously.
