Do you know what this is?

My mother and my sister don’t have a car so last Sunday I picked them up and we went to the newly opened playground park in my city. Well, it opened months ago but our schedules won’t match but finally we could all agree to go there that day. My nephews and niece were very happy to see the colorful playground. Their excitement was so contagious that even the adults, including me, tried the swing and the seesaw and ohhh the monkey bars too. Lol The playground is near the new coastal road so we could smell the fresh salty air and the light breeze was so refreshing. It wasn’t so hot and it didn’t rain. Thank you weather gods for cooperating. Photo is of this piko flag (I Googled it and it is called hopscotch, not sure if it’s correct) which reminded me and my sister of how we used to play and fight tooth and nails to win as many ‘homes’ as we could. Lol Sadly, I don’t see kids play piko nowadays. How do you call this game in your country? Did you ever play it?

We played Hopscotch all the time during our play period in elementary school. Such fun times. This is me in the photo, not really.

That´s exactly how we made it. We stole bits of chalk from the classroom to draw them.

Ohhh that’s so cute! I wish someone took a photo of us playing piko too but unfortunately cameras were so expensive those days

I remember playing hopscotch, but it didn't look anything like that. Ours looked like the picture I posted, but we usually drew it in chalk.

@marguicha we used pointed sticks to draw the ‘flag’ on the soill/ground. Not so many cemented/paved roads back then and we would get really dirty when we got back home.

Chinese garter? You must be the ‘queen mother’ and saved those who couldn’t jump high. I checked and by the way, you made my heart beat so fast like when I see LTO officers on the road lolll

I can now see that I never mastered the game, but I did observe others play, which explains why I truly had no idea how to play it or what the rules were. Simply jumping here and there while a stone is being tossed there is what I enjoy seeing.

Oh yes, I know what it is, in France it is called "La Marelle", in Italy it has many different names according to the region where you live, the most common is "Paradiso". I played it when I was a kid.

@sol_cee Yes, Paradiso means paradise. There was a song in France about this game. The lyrics started with the phrase "The Hopscotch game goes from the earth to the sky" (Le jeu de la Marelle va de la terre jusqu'au ciel.....).

We played hopscotch when I was in grade school but I haven't seen anyone playing it in years. Pretty hated the game when she was little. I'm glad you all had a good time at the new-ish park.

@sol_cee It is a board with squares of four colours. You choose your own colour and throw the dice. If the dice shows 6 the game starts for you. You have to gradually move through the house boxes to reach a square called home.

@sol_cee I remember it for being hopscotch when I was growing up in the States and I believe I did play it. I came to live in Israel as an adult and have seen kids playing that and jump rope too. In Hebrew this is what it is: ???? which is hopscotch in English.

As others have already said - hopscotch - but the one in your photo is different from the version I grew up with it (more like the ones in the comments - just the squares). I've seen kids play it at school, but I don't see kids drawing that on sidewalks or at the parks anymore. That used to be so much fun!!

My photo shows our version and if you’re familiar with the Philippine flag, you’ll see the similarity. That’s why we call it piko flag. I would always be the one assigned to draw the flag using pointed sticks on the ground because my lines were so defined lol at least that was my playmates told me before (or maybe it was their ploy to make me do it? )
