National Chocolate Mint Day

United Kingdom
February 19, 2023 5:35am CST
Today is National Chocolate Mint Day. As this is one of my favourite flavour combinations I am very happy to learn that there is a day of the year dedicated to it. After reading an article on mint chocolate, I am also happy to learn that this flavour combination also contains some health benefits. Good quality cocoa contains some good chemicals and mint is good for the digestion and it helps to freshen the breath. So now I do not need to feel guilty if I eat some later.

When I read about this, it made me fancy some mint chocolate. Luckily somebody brought me some for Christmas and I still have it in my cupboard... but not for much longer.

@lazydaizee yes it is. I prefer another taste of chocolate, like orange peel chocolate or almond chocolate

This is because mint is often used to flavour some brands of toothpaste. It is supposed to be good for freshening breath.

A few years ago I discovered that I can't stand mint. My boyfriend's mother had given me a box of mint cookies. They were too strong for me and now I refuse anything mint.

Some mint flavours are stronger than others, like extra strong mints compared to polos. I do not like mint to be too strong.

@dgobucks226 We do not have girl scout cookies here, but your comment reminded me of when I joined the Brownies as a young girl. I only went to one meeting and then we moved house so I could not go to any more. I was really looking forward to getting the uniform.

I had never heard of Girl Scout Cookies before I read your comment. I know what they are now after I looked them up on the internet. Thanks, you have taught me something else new today.

I don`t think that mint could be described as a spice, but it can be very hot if it is a strong flavour mint. I do know that mint is a herb because we grew some in our back garden a few years ago and it would not stop growing, it spread all over the place. So if you ever grow any mint, grow it in a pot where it cannot spread very far.

@Adie04 You explain it well . I would also describe mint as having a fresh flavour.

@lazydaizee I see.... I think I ever taste it, so it gives a bit like pricking flavour. Not spicy like chili, but it gives something hot compared to most ice creams that all cold. I am not sure if I explain it right.

Yes, similar sort of thing, but Valentines day has become very commercial and Chocolate mint day has not.
