no more crutches

I finally got to see the podiatrist today! After all the drama with the injury and trying to get it seen, it felt pretty anticlimatic. The doctor looked at my ankle, pronounced it as "still healing", and ordered me a boot. Then she left the room, a nurse returned with the boot, and that was it. I think the whole appointment took less than 15 minutes.
An interesting thing that she pointed out on my x-ray: I have some scarring on the ankle bone, like an old break that had healed. I've never been told that I had a broken ankle or foot before, but I have had some injuries in the past that were never looked at. I guess one of them may have been worse than I thought at the time!
The good news is I get to try going back to work on Monday. Hooray!

Well, aren’t you Nancy Sinatra! That boot was made for walkin’!
So thankful you’re healing up and can return to work!

It has a very different sole from my work shoes, so I hope it still counts as slip-proof for work.
It also has a definite curve, which I guess is meant to slow me down. If I'm not careful, it will pitch me onto my face!

@spiderdust — yeah, they’re made to help you heal, not win a marathon. Having said that, I played a Putt Putt local tournament in a walking boot and won it! ![](/Content/images/emotes/rofl.gif)

@FourWalls Ugh, a full day at work in the boot was rough! My calf muscles in my left leg are getting a workout (and the knee isn't too happy).

Will you be wearing a plastic bag over the boot so you don't get anything in/on it at work?
Congrats! I know you've been really worried about losing too much income right now.

@spiderdust When I worked with foods, I was always a baker and always managed to get flour all over my clothes. Or, ingredients from making different types of cheeses. None of those "wiped off".
I understand... Sometime we just need more money... I hope you earn PTO quickly.

Nah, it looks like it will clean off pretty easily. If I end up getting mayo on it, I'll wipe it off.
I have definitely been worried about it. I have a son with a birthday next month and some events coming up in March, April, May, and July that will require some overnight stays (July's requires travel expenses too), so I need both income and more PTO.

@DaddyEvil Fortunately I'm not in the baking department and most of the work I do is with salads.
I think I average about 3 hours of PTO per pay period, so I'm hoping to have plenty more soon.

I hope you can work comfortably in the boot. Just try not to run too hard wearing it, be careful. Glad you got in to see the doctor.

I also hope I can work comfortably in it. I suppose I'll get used to it eventually.

@spiderdust
Yes, you will. It does help to walk when you've had an injury that is slow to heal, as well.

I am sure that is a relief. You probably worry about how things are going without you and I know you are worried about money.
