Healthy and Quick Breakfast Foods

United States
February 26, 2023 9:22pm CST
I am not a morning person so I try to have some quick and easy breakfast foods for the morning. The 2 I usually have are overnight oats that I prepare ahead the night before and store in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning they are delicious and ready to eat. Or a banana with a tablespoon of peanut butter. Due to some health issues, I am not supposed to have bread (wheat products) or dairy. So that excludes a lot of breakfast foods. What do you eat for breakfast? Do you have any quick and healthy ideas of things I can eat for breakfast?

@Kouponkaren Eggs can be done in the microwave quite easily too.

@merrybelle2021 Yes I am but don't like to have to cook them in the morning and I hate the taste of hard-boiled eggs.

I tried overnight oats, but I prefer cooking them in the morning. I have them most mornings.

@paigea I can barely function in the morning, until 10:00 am so I just need something quick to grab with my coffee.

Sometimes I just make a strawberry, banana smoothie or make homemade muffins. If we are really hungry I make a breakfast burrito.

@jstory07 That's a good idea. I have a recipe for healthy muffins but they take time to make so I don't make them often enough. I will pull out that recipe again. Thanks. I usually save my smoothies for lunch.

@wolfgirl569 I can't have bacon or sausage and don't have the energy or patience to make eggs in the morning.

@Deepizzaguy Hm, all of those things are on my "do not eat" list so they won't work for me. I am glad you enjoy them though.

Even I'm trying to avoid wheat and trying newer grains. I'm dabbling a lot into millets nowadays. I love eggs, that is always a choice. I haven't tried overnight oats yet but I'm sure they are tasty. For now, I cook oats on the stove. I hope you find some new healthier options and take better care of your health.

I typically have a little dish of cinammon bran flakes with some sliced strawberries and milk on it. I used to have a poached egg every morning, it was such a nice way to start the day, now I prefer that as a noon meal.

@Kouponkaren If you like crepes, you could do up a few and then microwave one in the morning and then add some fresh fruit. I make up some asparagus crepes with gouda cheese and warm those up for my lunch meal at work, I like them.

@Juliaacv Yes, cereal is not a bad idea and easy. I am going to look into that.

I know that's hard to know what to eat. I could easily skip breakfast, but Dale likes it so I rotate eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, pancakes, French toast, and coffee. He's gluten intolerant, so recipes are a little different. Do you avoid wheat for that reason?

@Kouponkaren I'm sure sorry to hear that. I guess since my two cancers weren't hormone receptive (triple negative) maybe I won't have those restrictions. Did I tell you I found out today that I start chemo March 13?

I'm a toasted cheese and bread morning person. Can be rye bread. Or an egg. Fruit for sure. My husband eats a lot of oatmeal. And peanut butter.

I eat eggs on most mornings. I don't do wheat and dairy either because of the diet I'm on, Paleo. I also find it better for me. I need my banana every day. I also eat other fruit too for breakfast. Sometimes a good Paleo-friendly cereal with a nut or oat milk.

@Kouponkaren I look for the ones that are gluten-free. Rice Krispies is gluten-free. Oatmeal, Rice Chex. If you have a healthy aisle in your store, there should be a selection of gluten-free cereals there too. Look for ones that say Gluten-Free on the box. You can even find Paleo-friendly pancake mixes.

I have oatmeal every morning. I add some almond milk and sliced banana, then leave it to rest for about 15 minutes. Perfect! On chilly days I pop it in the microwave to warm up

@Ronrybs I do the overnight oats because I don't have the energy to make oatmeal in the morning. I did have it for lunch one-day last week and chopped up some apples, and walnuts and added pumpkin seeds and cinnamon.

I don't eat breakfast, but I do eat breakfast foods. We used to make breakfast burritos and then store them in the fridge for easy morning warm up, and you can do this with scrambled eggs too of course. My mom used to premake a bunch of pancakes and freeze them and we were able to just warm them up in the toaster.

@Kouponkaren Oh, breakfast burritos are great. I usually make mine with scrambled eggs, sausage, bits of hash brown potatoes, cheddar cheese, and before I eat them toss a little salsa in them. Yummy.

@porwest I have never had a breakfast burrito but it sounds good and if I can freeze them that would work well.

@Adie04 I never have heard that not eating breakfast can cause organ failure, but it is often said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I do like to have something healthy to eat with my coffee in the mornings.

I have done the banana and peanut butter thing. I am fortunate to be able to eat anything, not allergic or sensitive to grains or nuts or dairy. I like eggs, yogurt, cheese, you name it.
