March is coming in like a lion! And that means a new month-long countdown! For March, I’ll be revisiting the January theme of songs from movies. However, unlike those songs, which were taken solely from the list of songs nominated for an Academy Award, these songs were NOT nominated. The song was either not original (therefore not meeting the criteria for “best original song”) or just didn’t get nominated. That gives me a lot more freedom!! Now, I’m not going overboard, such as looking at soundtracks from movies like American Graffiti or The Big Chill to make it an oldies countdown masquerading as a movies list. However, there are some well-known songs that have become “associated” with a movie scene. Case in point: the teaser. This song is automatically associated among the younger generation with the scene in Wayne’s World, which makes us old farts who bought the 45 in 1975 really feel old. Grab your popcorn and get ready!!

The song sounds interesting! Wayne's World was the name of the movie ? In what genre was it?

Wayne’s World is the movie. It was a 1992 comedy. The song is by Queen, and it dates to 1975. It was considered “classic rock” before the movie, but the movie just elevated the song’s status.

I wonder how many of this month's offerings I will never have heard of? Perhaps I should keep track.

Thirty one songs, take your pick! If it’ll make you feel better, April will be visiting 60-year-old songs in honor of my birthday.

I'm a huge movie fan, and me (and others) prefer movies before our birth. I was born in the 80s, but 99% of the movies I love were made between the 1930-70s. I also think with YouTube, that music is music, as opposed to genre, or whatever is new. I live in Michigan, and we have a handful of classic rock stations. "Forrest Gump" have a handful of Doors songs, so it's automatically great. "All Along The Watchtower", too.. Reminds me of The Doors "The End" in Apocalypse Now.

It’s funny how so many people can see the artificial garbage being passed off as movies and music today and, instead, harken back to the older stuff.

Back then, my youngest nephew had long blond hair and wore glasses, so his friends called him Garth and that was his costume for Hallowe'en.

Wow! Bohemian Rhapsody time to shake my head Gallileo, Gallileo Gallileo Figaro, magnifico... Quite the interesting lyrics, lol. A great start to your movie series. Looking forward to this music countdown! You can find a great list of tunes from the 2 soundtracks you mentioned that's for sure. Will you include any of them on your favorite movie song list?

Well, it’s nearly halfway through the month now! Where have you been????? These are either songs that were from the movie (like “Mrs. Robinson”) or songs that have a memorable scene associated with them in a movie (like Wayne’s World did with “Bohemian Rhapsody”). Just having it playing in the background (as most of the songs were in The Big Chill) doesn’t cut it. There’s one coming up and one in the top ten that’ll really drive this point home.
