A talking robo-cleaner scared the kids

Vince’s hairdresser, his wife and their two children came for lunch today. He is from Iraq, not Iran as I mentioned in a previous post. He came out as a seven-year-old, knowing no English but now speaks better English than many of our dinki-di Aussies. He is 32. The children are 2 ½ and about 15 months.
We had a nice time together and finished our visit by walking the short distance to the nearby park. The kids loved the various apparatuses there which are very different from what we used to have as children.
The funniest part was when they pushed the button on Roberta, our robot vacuum cleaner. She said something in Japanese (she only speaks Japanese), gave a whirr and headed straight for them. They screamed and ran for Mum so I had to pick Roberta up and put her out of the way.

That's funny. I wonder what she said and if you can get a translator.

So do you have a translator so that you can understand Roberta? I can imagine little kids like that being startled by a talking vacuum.

Unfortunately we don't have a translator. We should have checked more carefully I guess but this was very modern at the time and would wash floors as well.

@allknowing At least that would stop them from playing with it - after the first time.

The kids probably never saw something like Roberta before or was so surprised that she spoke Japanese. Too bad she only speaks Japanese. Don't they speak Arabic? That can happen that some speak better English than English speakers themselves.

In a month the kids will probably want a ride on it the way dogs and cats do!

They ran straight to Mum! But they were very quickly reassured.

That's true but as it was, they didn't quite know what was happening.

May be not because of the language. Just the machine which talks scared the kids.
