Forgotten memory #1,124: Locked in Mt. Diablo State Park

I had totally forgotten about an odd ending to an adventure until a musician and hiking friend mentioned in on Facebook today. We had been searching for the wreckage of a 1946 plane crash on Mt. Diablo (only about ten miles from my house) in the late afternoon. We failed to find the plane, due in part to confusing directions in an article I had read in a local newspaper, but we had a lovely hike. I snapped the sunset photo I'll attach on the way back to the car. Suddenly we remembered that the Park closed at dark, and we still on the Mountain, taking photos of a pretty sunset. When we got to the "Upper Gate," about half-way up the Mountain, it was closed and locked. Nobody was around. Would we have to spend the night in the back of my small SUV? We both had Gatorade, and she had a bag of Trail Mix. OK, I have to get to work. I'l finish the story later. I leave it up to you to speculate about what happened next. Heh.

Not a thing! Yeah, it was an enjoyable hike. Until we almost didn't make it out of the park.

@TheHorse That must have been so scary. Hubs and I took a walk in the woods behind out house up north and followed what we thought were the trails. We couldn't find our way out for hours, but did arrive to familiar territory miles from out house at dusk

How peaceful is that photo. Love the vibes when staring into it. Thanks for sharing. And the memories of the Gatorade and trail mix too. Good to reminisce about the fun times.

You were trapped on a mountain with a cute biology teacher? How much biology did she teach you?

@TheHorse I know fruit picking is very important in your country and I respect that but right now I want to know how much biology studying you did with the hot teacher on the mountain.

I agree with Lou. A male and female trapped in an SUV overnight. Can't wait for the end of the story. That's a beautiful photo.

You're gonna be disappointed. Remember that we live in the age of cell phones. Though this did happen about seven years ago.

We would have had to walk another ten miles in the dark to get back to "civilization."

And you say this was unintentional? I'll look forward to hearing what happened. I guess your vehicle was locked in too.
