Question: Is being rich good or bad?

I was debating with a friend about whether wealth is good or bad. I warned him that it would be detrimental if the rich individual lacked any financial literacy. The worst case scenario is if they intend to do harm. If we can spread the benefits of our wealth, being wealthy is a good thing. If I had a lot of money, this is what I wanted to accomplish. What do you think about being rich? Image Credit: cdn.propertyupdate.com.au

I don't know... I've never been "rich". It would be up to each person how they reacted to becoming wealthy. Some would try to share out their wealth and become poor in the process. (That's what happens to a lot of lottery winners. They want to help their family and don't know when to stop.)

I also seen some people who won the lottery, but became poor for not using it wisely.

@DaddyEvil I agree. It is not a good thing. I felt bad for them. They were given the chance to have a comfortable life, but nothing happened for not using it wisely.

@Shavkat Oh, yeah... there are a lot of YT videos about people here trying to buy too much and becoming broke a couple of years after winning the lottery. It's not good.

It is not wrong to be rich, they have all the resources to get to where they are. Nothing wrong with being poor too but you should not do bad things. I am not rich nor poor.

I think we need to have good conscience all the time, either being rich or not. Unfortunately, some people changed in a bad way because of having lots of money.

You are not alone. I had seen some people who are, but never dared to share their blessings to others. Unless they are politicians, they can do a lot of things with their wealth just to win the game in politics.

How much money you want depends on your life style and your social obligations. Being rich is not bad but being filthy rich is bad. With growing inflation, people around the World will want to get filthy rich.

I don't know but I wouldn't mind finding out. I think I agree with what you're saying. It depends on the person and what they do with their wealth. I've heard stories of people coming into large sums of money and ending up in bad situations because they couldn't handle it. I'd like to think I'd be generous but also sensible enough not to cause myself any financial issues.

I am glad that you appreciated my thoughts about it. It is good to help others financially, but we also need to secure ourselves for not giving it all. There are some people that can abuse our kindness and that is not a good thing.

Oh that’s a good point someone rich who is out to do no good would be able to do that a lot easier with access to a lot of money . I think in general being rich would be good as it’s just one less thing to worry about in life.

I wish that everyone would have enough money to live well, eat well and have good health and education. I think that too much money is not always good. We need to have to work and wish for some things. I admire Bill Gates and his ex wife when they decided to give most of their money to different foundations and leave only part of it to their children.

@Shavkat It all depends on the amount we have, I suppose.

Only a few people can do what Bill Gates and his ex-wife did. At some point, we need to give back to the local people for making one's business prosper. That is why it is best to let them carry out the social responsibility.

I do not want to be rich. I just want enough money to live off of every month. No going without anything that I need.

@Shavkat If you worked and you made money where is the problem? Many wealthy people are generous and help the others. Is it a crime to be wealthy?

All I know is money cannot buy happiness. It is nice to have of course and the ideal situation is to have happiness along with the money.

No wrong being rich. It's a good thing. But most times I heard those who are rich are starting to get greedy and arrogant. Now, that's bad.

I do agree that it is bad if use in bad intentions. They are so controlled by the money and not the other way around.

Having money amplifies your character. If you are a bad person as a poor, you will be a worse person as rich. If you are genuinely good, money will make you a better person. I think wealth just shows how a person really is.

The Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil. Money isn’t the problem, it’s the idolization of it. As for the financial literacy, that’s absolutely correct. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau says that at least a third of American lottery winners go bankrupt, most within five years of winning. That indicates that they have no idea of what to do with the money once they get it. People who are so-called “self-made millionaires” and have had to work for their riches know the importance of financial accountability.

I agree with the Holy Bible says about money. There are bad deeds happening in this world and it is sad to say some of the cases are associated with the money. In my country, I had seen two or three instant millionaires for winning the lottery. The downside is that they live in an extravagant lifestyle and drained all the the money with so many luxurious things in mind. Thus, they are not good at keeping the money wisely.
