My Rating **** Genre – Netflix - Drama/Sci-Fi Run Time – 3 seasons (26 episodes) Certificate – 13a Country – Germany Awards – 6 wins /25 Nominations = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = So I got a £25 ($30) Netflix voucher for Christmas and added it in January. I had the cheapest subscription at £5.99 per month, so included adverts. What I didn’t realize is I had to use up the whole voucher in a row instead of dipping in with a month here and a month there. So I have Netflix until mid summer and so I need to find shows and movies to watch. Dark, a huge hit in Germany, and on Netflix, is my first reward for the long contract. It’s not a show I knew about but has great ratings online in all the right places. I have just finished season one and really enjoyed it. It’s the year of 2019 in the fictional small town of Winden, tucked away in Germany’s spooky Black Forest. We meet the community and the main protagonists, mainly that of the Tiedemann, Khanwald and Nielsen families, their lives intertwined by employment, school, gossip and love affairs... The town is near a foreboding nuclear power station and, like 33-years ago, local kids are going missing, presumed dead. The community is on edge. A mysterious cave holds the intrigue of some of the locals, perhaps where the kids are lost deep below the ground, dead or alive. A likewise malevolent man known only as Noah seems to be the man who holds the key to the mystery. We flash back to 1986 and then 1953 in the same Winden to learn the family trees and the birth of the nuclear power plant. A nuclear accident may or may not have happened in that timeline. Birds fall from the sky when the lights flicker in the town. But things get very strange when there appears to be evidence of people in 2019 being in those other two decades when they shouldn’t be. What is going on and where, or rather when….. ===Results=== I’m really pleased I have stumbled upon this show. I was watching it alongside the rather annoying O.A., and the preposterous Money Heist, trying to find a new show I could run with. With two seasons to go I will stick with Dark. It’s well made, gripping, atmospheric and the subtitles go unnoticed as you race along with the mind bending non linear storylines.
