A creative use of branches and knots

We saw this figure made of saplings (maybe willow?) at the Museum of Country Life in Turlough, Ireland. I don’t know if it is meant to be St Bernadette or if it is just a female figure but whatever it represents, it is very cleverly done. In the details, you can see some of the knots and plaiting that help make the figure what it it. Perhaps the face leaves a little to be desired but I would have been pretty pleased with it had I made it.

It is very nicely done, It's entirely possible that is made out of willow withes but the small knotty spots on them make me think it is some type of bamboo. (I could be entirely mistaken, too.)

I can't imagine but the skirt looks pretty intricate for starters with those knots worked into it.

That is really kool, it's a little eerie but was really well made. I'd love to learn about what the person, or persons, who made it were trying to portray.

It had to be complicate to make the figure from willow. My great grandad wove willow branches into all sorts of things. I think that was done a lot back in the day.
