A creative use of branches and knots

We saw this figure made of saplings (maybe willow?) at the Museum of Country Life in Turlough, Ireland. I don’t know if it is meant to be St Bernadette or if it is just a female figure but whatever it represents, it is very cleverly done.
In the details, you can see some of the knots and plaiting that help make the figure what it it. Perhaps the face leaves a little to be desired but I would have been pretty pleased with it had I made it.

It is very nicely done,
It's entirely possible that is made out of willow withes but the small knotty spots on them make me think it is some type of bamboo. (I could be entirely mistaken, too.)

@DaddyEvil They're not native to Australia but I think we have them here.

They must have very fertile imaginations. I'd have trouble coming up with the ideas.

We've seen quite a bit of this craft in Ireland. Not so far this trip but on previous visits.

@JudyEv this seems to be a traditional craft of Ireland.

That's really something. It looks like something that would have been made in Asia perhaps.

@JamesHxstatic Thanks. I'm glad you like it. I'd love something like this in my garden.
