Day 265
(Psalms 146:1-10) Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! While I live, I will praise the LORD. I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, and he returns to his earth. On that very day, his plans perished. Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps truth forever, who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners. The LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD raises those who are bowed down. The LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the strangers. He relieves the fatherless and widow. But the way of the wicked He turns upside down. The LORD will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD!
Are you happy? What makes you happy? Is your life on track? Does your life pose no problems, for the moment? Everyone comes through a stretch of trouble into the sunlight when things even out and you find a smile on your face. How long does that smile last?
The psalmist found happiness when he praised God. He knew he could not put his trust in a person, or his plans. Only God could make him happy. Only God freed prisoners, opened blind eyes, and turned a person’s life right side up.
As Christians, your happiness is in God. When Satan comes against you with health concerns, financial concerns, and family concerns that bring you to your knees, only God can bring you peace of mind, and put a smile on your face no matter what you face.
You can’t look at your bank account, your financial advisor, your spiritual advisor, or your concerned friends. You can only look to God to bring you out of trouble and set your feet on solid ground. Yes, these people can give advice and counsel, but it is God who confirms the counsel and brings you complete peace of mind and puts a smile on your face. How do you know when the counsel you received is from God? Prayer.
When you spend your time in Bible study and prayer, you will know God’s answer when you hear or read it. You will know that the medical procedure the doctor suggested is the right one. You will know the job you’re seeking is the right one. You will know the family situation that brings you to your knees will come out right because God will bring you through. That is why you can smile and be happy. God has your life in the palm of His hand. You can trust Him to carry you and bring you through the most difficult situations.
Let’s pray: Father, You know my needs and the difficult situation I face. I trust You to bring freedom to my life and set this captive free. I will shout your praise, I will bend my knees, I will worship You with my whole life. Let my praise be sweet in Your ears. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
