Day 278
(Proverbs 11:26) The people will curse him who withholds grain, but blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.
There are many hungry people in the world and many organizations send relief to feed them. Those organizations ask for donations to feed the hungry. Those who provide help know the blessing it contains for helping wherever they can. Those who don’t help when it is in their power to do so feel the curse from those begging for a morsel to keep from starvation.
Solomon knew God’s blessing when he provided food to those in need. He willingly gave the people what they needed. He knew that withholding food brought a curse on those who could give.
As Christians, you know the joy and blessing of giving. There are two organizations that send help wherever it’s needed in the world: Convoy of Hope and Samaritan’s Purse. You can also give it to your local pantry. Wherever there’s a need you can help with, you will know God’s blessing on your life.
Jesus told a parable about the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man withheld his hand from helping Lazarus, a beggar seeking a crumb from the rich man’s table, but never received it.
(Luke 16:19-26) “There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. So it was that the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torment in Hades, he lifted his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you, there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’”
What is stopping you from helping those in need? God promised to provide everything you need. When you give, not only are you blessing the person with food, but God also blesses you for giving. Don’t withhold your hand when it is within your power to give. If you do, you will feel the sting of God’s curse on your life.
Let’s pray: Father, let me know Your blessing when I help those in need. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Blessings to be Blessed. When we help others, we are actually helping ourselves. That is GOD's commandment for us to love one another.
