The job of Judges is not easy. They cannot decide cases immediately.
They could go wrong. I have read a few patent related depositions, and I can tell you I felt both parties were rightful owners...based on those depositions. A lot of thinking and analysis goes into this...and mind must be free to focus away from whether I have to prepare food, or there is issue with air conditioner.
But that is only part of the story....they are bound by precedents too. They might want to give serious punishments, but the law books restrict them.
They also fear for their lives and lives of their family members. Definitely such scary prospects exist because some of the criminals are ominous fellows.
But the recent admiration for these people is because of Bilkis Bano case. Remember the lady gangraped by 11 guys and her 14 family members killed? Exactly that case. The State government opted for remission to those criminals. The central government did nothing to stop such blatantly inhuman decision. Kudos to their moral standards.
So yeah....it took two judges to stand up to the two governments...even if one of them is a Christian, the other one is a Hindu and a lady at that. I love her. Seriously, I love her. She has guts.
My heart is touched with their attempt to keep some sense of justice around.
I forgive them the innumerable deferments.
How happy are you all with your judges?

I totally agree that being a judge is not easy, especially in today's time when media is crazy and totally into headlines management fitting their personal benefits and bias. Media plays a lot to build perception about any case
I always hope and wish for more unbiased and logical people there.

It required guts on the part of Supreme Court Judge Nagaratnamma to condemn in this case...she being a Hindu, must have faced some pressure from within.
But the remission of those 11 ... truly truly unfair....killing 3 year old? Killing unborn child? Not manly act at all. That is like wolves. Not humans.

@arunima25 If religion is taken as an excuse to do such things, then isn't the religion being humiliated, and defamed?

What reason did the governments provide for remission? Also didn't understand why the lady judge must have faced some pressure from within (and in which direction).

We're not always happy with their decisions; but I think judges in the US for the most part are fair.

This lady was pregnant...gangraped and she lost her child. Not only the baby in her, but even her 3 year old was killed before her, and so was her husband. From no angle would I have even given parole to the guys. 14 family members killed in front of her eyes, and she gangraped... which human being would not be shaken up. She was compensated monetarily. But no monetary compensation can be enough again crime of this magnitude. It was disgusting to say the least. And remission? Give me a break!
If nobody had approached the Supreme Court, the State and the Central government would have gotten away with it...
There is a reason I don't want our judiciary to be under the central government rule. There can be folks like Hitler around and we have seen how judges were in Nazi Germany.

@vandana7 During the Emergency, judiciary was undermined nonetheless. When you are a dictator, you don't need any other excuses.
