Do you use a dryer or line dry clothes?

Which do you do, and do you have a preference for either? Jim's discussion made me think about it. I have a dryer and prefer it, not only is it easier, but I like the way the clothes feel after having been in there. Drying clothing outside always makes them feel rough. I do put sheets or towels out sometimes in the heat of the summer though, as they will dry quickly. Might as well use that hot sun for something. I could put a line in the back but with all the trees. I would be afraid insects or ticks would get on the garments. It isn't worth it.

A dryer because I can get more done in a short amount of time then I can when I don't have one.

I line dry my clothes. I gave away my dryer many years ago. I lived alone and did not need one.

@snowy22315 Here many people do. I guess it much depends on the climate.

We used a clothesline when I was a little kid, and a little bit at the house where my parents live now, but once we had a dryer no one was very interested in hanging up clothes.

The only things I really hang dry are the things that can't be tumble dried. Thinking about changing it, though... our dryer pulls tons of electricity and the savings on the bill would probably be worth the hassle. Just cutting down on our use of the dryer the other week brought our household usage down about 25%.

You could also use those dryer balls. They are supposed to cut down on the time it takes clothes to dry.

@snowy22315 We have a set of wool dryer balls. I haven't noticed a whole lot of difference between doing loads with them and without them.

@Tampa_girl7 I also like the way you can de wrinkle in them. However, with the cost of electricity these days I am more likely to use a wrinkle free spray.

I use the dryer first and then air dry them, so they could be thoroughly dried.

We have a machine that does both washing as well as drying job. I am kinda surprised that at your end, you all have two different units ... I have had this combination machine for 20 odd years and most people have such machines only. The clothes are not completely dry ..they are only dry to the extent that we can iron them. Quite often immediately ironing them is not possible...that could make them stink a tad because they are just tad damp EVENLY. So we tend to dry the clothes in the sun just to ensure that clothes are dry and do not stink. In summers I tend to leave the clothes on clothes line for longer. This is to prevent the excessive heat of sun hitting my kitchen ...which gets really hot ...being located towards south east of our apartment. So the clothes serve as multiple curtains, with air pockets...since there are three washes per week, yes, they are there for longer but not throughout. They do feel rough ...but I have not noticed that much difference with damp ones that are ironed. My skin may not be that sensitive. :)

I never iron. If my clothes need de wrinkling, there is a spray I use to take wrinkles out.

Well, neither. I have a drying rack in my back room, and there’s a ceiling fan back there. I remember the days of my mom hanging out the laundry. However, these days I feed birds and I’m pretty sure they’d repay my kindness on the clean clothes.

Ha, yes you never know...in my case, the squirrels would probably chomp something or steal it, or maybe even steal the stuffing like they did with a chaise lounge in the back..

I used to dry a lot of loads outside. But I moved about 10 years ago, and we do not have a place to dry clothes, and it's not allowed to put up poles, etc.. I purchased a foldable drying rack that I use a lot. In the winter I can hang things on it to dry inside, many times in nice weather I put it on the back patio and dry things outside in the sunshine. Running the dryer is one of the things that can really run up the electric bill, so I try hard to dry many items without the dryer.
