Top ten time!!! That’s right, we’re now in the “meat” of my favorite songs that turn 60 years old this year. If you wondered why some of those great songs I’ve used earlier didn’t make the top ten, just wait until you see the top ten! A great year for music, no doubt! Here we go dancing!
#10: Heat Wave - Martha and the Vandellas
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah!! And if you want it purely rocking, you can go to Linda Ronstadt’s version (which will turn 50 in a couple of years).
Now, remember, the general purpose of this countdown isn’t so much to make anyone feel old (least of all, me ) as it is to point out the timeless nature of these great songs. And this one is indeed timeless!
We may never know what a “Vandella” is (a vehicle for the Touched By an Angel star? ). Berry Gordy came up with the name, so ask him. But there’s no mystery about the greatness of this great, classic tune.
Heat Wave
Written by Holland/Dozier/Holland
Recorded by Martha and the Vandellas
From Heat Wave, 1963
Has high blood pressure got a hold on me:

It’s amazing how these songs seem to scream “fun summer time,” isn’t it!

Two great versions to choose from, Martha and the Vandella's and Linda's. Motown vs Rock n' Roll. No coin flip here, I like em' both Turn up the Heat!

Definitely a two-for-one knockout! Different versions but each great in its own way!
