If You Catch Your Pet Licking or Eating Your Food

what do you do next? Do you still eat it? Or just take off the parts your dog or cat ate? About 2 weeks ago, I caught one cat eating the tuna-mackerel spread I left on the table (I was going to make a sandwich as a snack and everything was set) so I disposed it and found something else to eat. But tonight, I was very hungry, it was way past dinner time, and the only food left was fried marinated milkfish and no rice so I would have to eat all of it to feel full. I left the kitchen for a bit then when I came back saw the other cat eating one piece. This time I just sliced off the piece she bit and ate everything else. What would you do?

Well, for me I wouldn't let it get that far. Eating human food with it being given to them is a no-no. No cats on the table or counters and no dogs jumping on my lap at the dinner table.

I would dispose of it - everything - especially if the dog has not been vaccinated. I would rather have salt and tomatoes if I were so hungry.

@merrybelle2021 Your stomach is sensitive, salt and tomatoes with rice are great, with egg is even better. Or I could just eat bread,

Just salt and tomatoes might give me a stomachache.

@Jenaisle No, there was no rice anymore and it was very late at night so no place to buy and would take too long to cook.

I would have sliced it off like you did, and continued eating it. I did catch my dog drinking the last of my egg nog once, and I sadly disposed of it.

I´d rather go hungry. But there´s no possibility of Luna´s getting near my food. She lives outdoors and I live indoors. She has her own house and her own food. And so do I.

They're all indoor cats.

@merrybelle2021 My youngest daughter has dogs and cats roaming in the house. I couldn´t. I give Luna her snacks of my leftover food in her dish, outside.

I'd put my fishies back in their tank and tell them to stop eating my food. Then throw the food away and get something else.

I´d even prefer a hamburger from a fast food stores than something my dear Luna had licked. Or nothing. There´s always bread at home. Or a quick rice. Or a green salad.

@DaddyEvil I always say that at my home you can die of anything but from hunger.

@marguicha That's a good saying... I may borrow that from you.

I wouldn't eat anything that has been licked or my cat ate already. I have three cats none of them ever gets on the table or counter. In the first place, they don't get to go in the dining or kitchen area where food is prepared and eaten. They have their own place in the house. And that's where they'll only be.

@merrybelle2021 They stay in an enclosed area. They don't freely roam in the entire house else their fur will be everywhere and I'll have problems like that.

How did you train them not to go to the dining or kitchen area? Are those areas closed off or are the cats stay in an enclosed area?

If I caught one of my pets eating something of mine depending on what it is I'd let them finish it otherwise id takes it from them and throws it away. Even though most animals' mouths are clear doesn't means you should eat something that has been in their mouth. There are certain bacteria and such that are not always good for a human that animals can get from other animals, virus, and such. The same for humans to animals. I don't even eat something that's been in another person's mouth.

I never let the cat where he can get our food. Should this happen I give to the cat, I would not eat.

We found frosting off our birthday cake and we humans didn't do it. No way were we going to throw away the cake that we'd put a good deal of effort into making- we make stuff from scratch so that carrot cake took effort.

I have to throw it out. I just can't. But cutting off the piece he licked sounds okay.

I don't eat things that are touched by cats or dogs. I have net windows so no cats can enter. Where my pet dog is concerned I keep my food away from his reach.

Once I found my dog on the table eating my bowl of cereal, I remember that first I got angry and then I told him to leave, then I passed the anger and I simply understood that he is an animal and it is his instinct, he wanted to eat haha

That has never happened o me. I would probably cut off the part that the cat ate off of.
