Outdoor shelters which helped combat covid restrictions

In some ways, covid forced people to come up with innovative ideas to counteract the problems. Friends of ours who owned a restaurant started offering to deliver meals around the town and this worked out quite well for them. In Ireland, eating places came up with the idea of outdoor shelters which would allow people to have their coffee/cake/meals without breaking the social distancing laws. We saw these types of shelters in quite a few places. This one is at a service station which also has washing and drying machines on the hard standing to one side of the shop itself. We did some washing there and read our books in the car while we waited.

Yeah, restaurants who did outdoor dining or did delivery did not suffer huge losses here. And boy, a heck of a lot of restaurants took up delivery, especially when they linked up with places like DoorDash.

I was delighted that people found really innovative ways to adapt and carry on.

During the covid pandemic, many of the restaurants closed here. I wish they had held on longer because their areas were good ones for restos. Now, they are relocating with increased fees and with unsure income. Some did make home deliveries and these ones were the ones that survived.

@JudyEv Yes, there were similar structures here too.

Some were more innovative than others. It certainly made people think outside the box.

The photo reminds me of a restaurant we visited during the pandemic that had outside tables each in its own plastic bubble.

this is a very brilliant idea. This can be used in countries like ours. it will not only serve the restrictions but also will lessen sun and heat

Yes, it gives shelter from the elements and also allows people to socially distance safely.

I can say that the covid onslaught brought out a lot of creative ideas. Some remain , which is good because covid is still around.

A guy came selling fruits and vegetables in his push cart so that people had their stuff at the door

Those are neat for a lot of reasons. Not just helping with covid, but you can eat outside while being sheltered from the sun or rain (unless it’s windy, of course).

And in Ireland, you often need protection from the elements.

The restaurants that had outdoor dining did not loss much money. I did not go to any restaurants during covid. Why take the chance.

Here they installed "separators" inside because you cannot use those shelters in case of too cold weather or bad weather.

I'm surprised it wasn't too cold under these but I guess in summer it might have helped.

These were in Ballina but we saw some in Connemara as well. They could still be pretty cold little shelters given the Irish climate.

We have outside tables at some restaurants but they were there before covid. I think most restaurants are back to serving as usual.

By going into these shelters, they were protected from the elements and were socially isolated.

They are a great idea. People still felt like they were going out and were part of society.
