The Implications of too much rainfall for the crops.

Good morning my friends. I hope all goes well with you. This morning things are not very fine at all. This is because It had started raining cats and dogs since dawn till now. The downpour is so heavy that you can hear the impact on the ground. However everyone needed the rain especially in my country that was almost turning to a desert. As the saying goes that too much of something is poisonous, the rain has become too much and poses danger to the entire crops. Most people here in my country had plated maize. Now the maize plants are not doing well at all because they lack the sunlight. Now in most farms they have turned yellow in colour. This has a very negative implication as far as the maize harvest is concerned. Secondly the weeds have attacked the crops so immensely that they cannot bear any fruits unless proper measures to eradicate them are set in place. So the most downside part of it is that, the rain would not give the people chances to get rid of the weeds because of the constantly heavy downpour. In the meantime we stay indoors and wait for the rain to cease if at all it will before we can do anything else. Good time while my loting.

Anything in excess is bad. I pray that the heavy rain stops soon and the crops could be saved. We had heavy rain in the last few days. There was yellow alert in the city and its still there. Glad that the heavy rain doesn't continue throughout. We do get some sunshine in the daytime and that helps, else it would have flooded by now. Take care

Thanks for the response. I am glad that my place of residence is not prone to flooding. However I appreciate God for everything whether good or bad provided He is in the control of everything in deed. I however hope for the best to come as always.

I hope things get better soon and the rain stops. We cannot command nature to do as we wish. Nature can often threaten life and property. We are at its mercy. All we can do is pray, deal with emergencies and wait.

I say thank you very much for your responses. I totally agree with you on that. We can however don't have the capacity or potential to change anything within the nature. We have to leave for God to take the control for everything in deed. Quite impressive. Thanks alot and be blessed.

@Treborika I did indeed, I know first hand that too much rain can destroy the growing crop

@RebeccasFarm That's exactly the truth of the matter. For instance by the look at things, no one would get anything substantially in terms of the maize harvest.

Too much of anything is not a good thing. It happens here when we get a serious hurricane - crops and livelihoods blow away with the wind, rain and floods.

@Treborika. It is. Luckily the last really serious hurricane to hit this island wad in 2012. Between then and now , nothing too serious except for rain and some flooding.

I am sorry. A lot of people don’t consider what happens when crops get too much rain. My dad is friends with a family of farmers from the state of Texas, and one year they had monstrous rains that just took out everything.

Constant rain is very bad for crops, the same as constant drought.

I'm sorry you're getting too much of a good thing as we sometimes say here. I hope the rain eases off soon so people can weed their crops.

Sorry to hear this and hope the rain will stop long enough to allow your crop to do well and you can get rid of the weeds. We have to study Agriculture more to grow plants that can be strong against weather and learn to how to deal with weather changes and other things that come up when farming. Hope you don't have to start over with a new crop.
