They really burned our buns

Quite literally. Hot dog buns that is. K grilled hot dogs for dinner on our panini make/indoor grill. We normally would have grilled outside, but the weather was iffy and better safe than wet. She opened the hot dog rolls and found these two beauties in the middle of the top row. The bottom row was also overdone, as were the two outside buns on the top, but not nearly to the extent of these two. K intends to send a politely worded letter to the bakery that produced these two overbaked buns to let them know someone in quality control wasn't paying enough attention. I wonder what type of response she'll receive. Have you ever opened a package of baked goods to discover they'd spent too long in the oven?

This has never happened to me and I am surprised that these buns even got packaged and were sold,

Someone in the bakery's quality control department must have been absent that day.

That is way over cooked. I would be letting them know too. They should refund your money

Oh, goodness! I don’t believe I have ever seen anything like that. The odds of that getting past people would have been small in my head.

It did surprise me that the burned rolls were caught by quality control. Someone was either distracted or absent from work if this was allowed to happen.

@DWDavis Ohhhhh. I wonder if someone at the bakery/factory knew about it but didn't do anything about it. They need work on quality control!!

These two were in the middle of the top row of buns when K took them out of the package. The bottom row looked normal, and it is the one that can be seen through the package wrap at the store.

I'm glad they weren't all like that. Dinner would have been boring without the rolls.

If we were at home instead of on a camping trip, we would have taken this up with the store. The store would probably have given us another package of rolls in exchange, even though they aren't the ones who bagged the burned buns.

I haven't experienced to it. As usually these food are made by machine and it is not so easy to have such a big mistake.

It never happened to me, and if it did, I would send them back the buns and let them change them for some new well-baked ones.

We didn't see the burned buns until we opened the package at the campground. K emailed a complaint to the company.

@DWDavis Well done, this is what I always do when they "hide" their mistakes so you buy and only discover later.

I've seen mildly overbaked bread and buns, but nothing like this. Imagine if an entire shipment went out like this. Someone might lose their job over it.

Had we been closer to the store instead of down at the campground, we might have done so. K did send them an email complaint.

I've never seen a burned bun in a package. K should definitely write to the bakery. They may have a website where you can do that.

No, never have. I think if something was overcooked like that where we shop they would send it to the discount rack.

As burned as they are, I'm doubtful they would have even made it to the discount rack.

There were other buns in the package that weren't ruined, so K was able to make a good dinner. Still, to find this makes one wonder what went wrong at the bakery that day.

I've never had quite the same experience, but I do recall a time when I accidentally added black pepper instead of cardamoms to my tea. And you won't believe it, but it was my older brother who took the first sip and nearly spit it out! Talk about a spicy surprise in his cup!

Your story reminds me of a time when my son was first learning to cook and made tacos using Allspice because he thought it contained all the spices he needed.
