Labrador pups are difficult to train

The Labrador retriever dog breed is probably one of the beloved dog breeds , they are playful ,intelligent, and loving, unfortunately my 6 month old Labrador retriever puppy Krypto (named him Krypto after superman's dog and he ain't no super dog) he is the total opposite, he is a menace in my household terrorising my home. Destroying and stealing food is like playtime to him, I'm hoping to one day send him for so puppy training, but I'm afraid that won't work. Hopefully it eventually works and as he grows up he ends up being a good boy. I know he doesn't mean it and is just finding a way to have some fun.
Do you have a pet who is menacing as mines?

The puppy phase is killer in some dogs. When I was sixteen I had a rat terrier named Chicago (big Bulls fan at the time), and he was a holy terror. Honestly though, after the puppy phase, he ended up being one of the smartest, and most well behaved dogs I ever had. I know Krypto will be worth the wait, and I am glad he has you to care for him.

Having raised and trained dogs for obedience for the last 30+ years, including Labrador Retrievers, it seems both you and your dog need to take some basic dog obedience lessons. Sending him off to a pro will only cost you money and probably won't solve your problem. You need to learn how to interact with your pup to get the results you desire.

@Kanji121 First question: Do you have a crate for your puppy? To your pup, a crate is like having its own bedroom, its special safe place in your home. This video and article explain in detail how to train your dog to a crate and why it should be a positive thing for your dog.
Second question: Is your pup leash trained? Your dog should always be on a leash unless you are in a contained, safe area like a fenced yard or dog park.

I also recommend you find someone in your area who teaches the KUSA Canine Good Citizen Training for dogs. Here is a website I found for a dog training school in Durban.

This video and link from the AKC explain what being a Canine Good Citizen means. The KUSA has a similar program. The second link will take you to the web page explaining the program done there in South Africa.

Raising a dog responsibly takes time and patience. You have committed yourself to taking the best possible care of it for its entire life, and that includes training it to be a good canine citizen. Both you and your dog will enjoy your life together more if you both work together. Best of luck.

@Kanji121 Yes, they are. I own guppies, corydoras catfish and cherry shrimp. I love to watch them in their tank.
For years, I owned a pair of carpet sharks. They could get out of their tank and would hunt for me around our house. (They can only stay out of the water about an hour and a half before needing to be helped back into their tank.) I got them as newborns. A friend shipped them to me from Australia. They loved to be held and petted... They'd squeak at me to be picked up and loved... They would wriggle just like young puppies when they want attention... They passed away almost six years ago and I still miss them.

@DaddyEvil I never tried petting my fishes, 5hats something new I learnt today. Wow and I never heard of those species of fish. I haven't seen them locally too. I have a small tank which has a few fishes . They all unique in there own way. I named one of my angel fished after my lab pup that passed away, and I noticed when I'm near the tank the fish always fights with the rest when to see me. Reminds me of my puppy. Lol

It's best that he is trained by a pro. I think your pup is an alpha.

Yes, I do have a puppy whom my son rescued from a drain near our house. He is giving us a tough time. He has torn his own bed. Hope he calms down once he grows up.

A friend of mine once had a Labrador who had been difficult when he was young. My friend persevered with him and he turned out to be a lovely family dog.
